Re-inventing Name Sales

As others have said "rare" name is often subjective to the buyer. I would think/agree that there should just be a section added called rare name sells and perhaps the names there should be filtered in some manner?

 

Yeah something like that would work.

It's really annoying to see Name Sales right now being flooded with fake names and bad names. Also, giving away free names when the rules have CLEARLY been updated. And a mod decides to re-open it. Come on.

 

I support this thread. I get irritated when I see people false advertising and then when you point out it's not rare they have the audacity to argue with you trying to prove them point with their failure grammar. Really pisses me off.

I also hate the rare names that are like "haha i h1t u".... its not rare at all.

 

To be honest, I'd rather have the name sales market free of regulation. You really can't assume that "non-rare" name sale threads are just spam.

If you don't want to buy the name... don't post on the thread.

For the second part about assuming that non-rare names are spam:

• Another new idea has been the division of Name Sales into the following:
  • Name Sales General Discussion
  • Rare Name Sales
  • Other Name Sales
  This would take away some of the problems. At Name Sales General Discussion people could requests Names individually instead of placing it into a sticky. At rare name sales, well.. rare names can be sold there. The first point of my idea still applies though, people can get infracted if the names aren't rare. At Other Name Sales, people can sell all other names. But there has to be a certain standard, eg. correctly spelled names ONLY. Otherwise you would still have the problem of people selling names like MlNING (mLning)

There would still be a place for people interested in names that aren't specificially specified as rare, but there will also be a much more interesting place where actually rare names will be sold.

 

I can't agree with you anymore on this, Jj. Fantastic idea. I would love a general name discussion to talk about upcoming name releases,who and whom have names, and also the place to ask questions. Also my sticky can actually be moved into that section as the guide focuses soley on name sales only.

The Request a rare name thread is pointless because it's a universal buying thread that isn't truly accurate. Some are listed such as "Owned by Sam". Who's Sam? Be more specific.

I still support a division of the name sales. I'm sick of seeing non-rare names colliding with the high quality names. Not to mention those names taken with that ridiculous name checking program(unless it's rare).

 

I support. It's annoying when people say "selling rare name OMFG" and the name is something like caroling, pk1234drdad. then people comment on the thread saying that its not rare and the op arguing it is causing a lot of unnecessary spam/flamming. I think there should be a name sales mod that has to approve the threads before they can be posted or something of that nature.

 

Even though I don't really use that section anymore, I think this is an awesome idea. more than anything it would help a lot keeping the section as a whole organized.
also, anyone who keeps saying "all names are rare" needs to get over themselves. I don't care what the definition is, or even subjectivity for that matter, when it comes to names you need to learn to drop that pretentious ideology because it's not the same thing. two separate sections for high-end names and "other" names would help a lot.

 

The thread is meant to guide new users, so that they don't buy worthless names thinking that they're rare. However, they'd know that if they were looking for that specific name, that the name wouldn't be worthless to them (if that makes sense, not sure if I worded that well).



I don't believe that the division of name sales is necessary.

1. All name discussion can be discussed in General Market Discussion / Runescape 2 General
2. We don't need to divide "Rare" names and "Non-rare" names. That's pretty much the same as disallowing non-rare names in my opinion because everything who posts "non-rare" names thinks their name is rare.

 

Just wondering why the 500+ account not to purchase sticky was taken down and a new sticky about not posting price checks took place? Shouldn't that rule just be merged in the rules sticky?

 

Well, the 500+ accounts not to purchase doesn't really need to be there, as the section is for name sales which are mostly just display names. The rules sticky does have the rule that price checks should be posted in the price check section, however, some people have just been ignoring that. Also, we'd rather have new threads in Price Checks, not posting on Lym's thread.

 

I don't see the point as people will STILL ignore stickies.

theres so many different people using it.. it really would be hard to contain it... it just seems like extra work for staff, so like this guy, i dont support

 

It wouldn't be much harder than it currently is.

 

I mean it's not a bad suggestion, but it's definitely not the most active forum, so why this one? It's actually among the lowest in 'RuneScape Markets' for posts and views, I think you have overplayed the general activity of the forum just a little bit. Also I think "Worthless Names" is most definitely a matter of opinion. It would be an awkward/tricky market to police, most importantly it's not really necessary; no-one is doing anything wrong.

From the places where you actually sell accounts it's on Spot #2 out of 7 which definately isn't bad. The topics and views are lower, but that also is because the Name Sales subforum is newer then the other subforums.

I didn't overplay the activity, it's currently one of the most viewed sections where people are actually buying RuneScape accounts - as names are on account and you buy the account.

Attempting to sell "not-rare" names is indeed not wrong, but it is annoying. It's like selling worthless items at Item-Sales or selling extremely low amounts of gold when you know that people are interested in stuff like santa hats, easter eggs and atleast 10m+ gp.

 

Any other opinions?
