Playerauction scam?

I got scammed awhile back buying gold on playerauctions. The guy who was selling claimed to playerauctions he sold to me, when he didn't. So I disputed it to find out that he made some fake video of him trading a character with the same character name as me. I assume this was a private server but was wondering what he really did? I mentioned to playerauctions he was using a private server yet they didn't believe me and ruled in his favor.

 

It seems highly unlikely someone would do this in the first place or be able to pull it off. Did you get to see the video?

 

Sounds like a good scam to me. Interested to hear PAs opinion / how they deal with something like this

 

I'm interested to know how this escalates as well, so far they have not updated their 'Evidence' method for sellers. So I assume if what you said happened, it'll be a whole new level of scam.

Then after trying to chargeback he disputed, after reviewing the video which was recorded on the official website(showing login and trade) it was a legitimate sell

Fury it matters whether the URL, etc was showing on the page. I'm sure Player auctions has experience with fake server delivery scams...

You might be able to dispute it if you can get them to take a deeper look into the evidence of the sale.

This was along time ago. It was kind of my fault because I was buying from a seller who didn't have much feedback but was selling cheap. I can't log into my account yet to try and get the video. But I don't know if I'll even be able to since its closed. I was able to chargeback paypal as I lost the case. One detail I remember is that my name was spelled incorrectly in the video. I had an l and instead he had it as L.

PlayerAuctions has a premium buyer protection policy.

Although it is unlikely to get scammed it still happens so try your luck with another seller.

Couldnt you tell the difference between a p server, and real runescape?

EDIT: definitly PM PA here on sythe, by the video he should be able to tell if it's real or not.

 

This happened in 2013 I already got my money back but it was not ruled in my favor. I'm just wondering what he did or if I was right that it was a private server. I'm hoping that when I recover my account I can find the video if not maybe I can get PA to give it to me.

Apologies for the delay guys. Things at PA have been crazy (in a good way) and so I haven't been able to spend as much time on communities as I've wanted to recently, but I've cleared out some time to visit the backlog.

We do have experience with these types of scams, albeit they are very few and far between.

Strangely enough...the actual facts do not line up with the assertions made here. The reality of this case is such that the video evidence provided DID NOT meet our requirements, and because the seller failed to provide sufficient evidence, we had ruled in favor of the buyer, check this super secret screenshot of our backend:



The OP unfortunately was not 100% truthful when he states that he had filed a chargeback after he lost the case (or we can give him the benefit of the doubt, that he just didn't remember correctly since it was a few years ago).

We watch out for these sorts of things. And whenever there is foul play in new areas of scamming, you can always ask for a manager to review the case, or ping me here.

It's unfortunate for the OP, as if he had demonstrated a little faith in our dispute process, he would have received a refund, instead of getting suspended because of issuing a chargeback. >_<
