The real deal with account recovery...

If someone scams you on a deal after you've given recovery information, legitimate recovery information so they know it all, what's gonna happen? You can recover the account, but so can they? Does Jagex actually know who the real owner of the account is? Or is it just all automated and whoever can fill out the right answers gets the account.. I've heard they do IP checks so they can see you're the legitimate owner but I'm not sure if that's true... You'd think they have a system that can definitively tell who the real owner is, but I'm just not sure, and I'd really like to know if it's even worth the effort of fighting for the account. Thanks.

Requests from the original IP/location/ISP are likely to be accepted. If the account gets locked, which is also likely, successful recovery of the account will mean that the email/recovery questions will be wiped, so you will be able to set new recovery information.

The real deal with account recovery...

The person doesn't just have the recovery/email. They have EVERYTHING, they gave me a list of detailed recovery information and I answered truthfully. The only thing I have going for me is they are from Slovenia while I'm from the US so there is a huge geographical difference there.. If I recover the account (will be successful) from the correct IP for the account, and then they try to recover it back AGAIN, will it register that they are not on the proper IP/ISP/Continent? And deny them access? If I won't be 100% secure I'm not going to bother taking the account back, I'd just want to resell it and then it wouldn't be safe to sell, and I sure wouldn't play on an account that would just end up getting perm locked due to numerous recovery requests... Thanks for the reply.

You will be able to recover, then you can change password, they will then be able to attempt to recover, but the account will get LOCKED. This part is where the IP address really comes into play. Merely attempt to recover it again and you will get to reset your email address and your recovery questions/JAG so they will not be able to access!

So even though they know my account creation details? ISP name? Day the account was created.. Etc.. They won't be able to take the account back? What if they try and recover it AGAIN after the account is locked and then unlocked? Will it just repeat? Account locked again and another recover?

The original owner always has the upper hand. I recovered an account that I hadn't touched in over 6 years just by asking them to compare the creation IP of that account to my main. They decided I was the original owner and I got the account back after 6 years of not touching it.

thanks for the replies. but the one question that i haven't really seen an answer for is what happens if they try to recover it again? they can still get it back can't they? If they have the information can they still get it as easily as I did? I understand that since I'm on the IP that the account was created it'll be easy for me to get back. But if they don't look at the IP and just the answers the next time the person tries to take it back they have the info to recover it.

Did you sell and then recover? lol
Well I had an experience somewhat like this where I had bought an account and low and behold, a few weeks later, the account is recovered. Tried to recover back, ending up getting it locked, posted in account help forums and was told the account was recovered at the original I.P. twas created. Basically told me shut up you're not the owner. Was refunded though :p

No, I didn't sell and recover. It was my old main which I shared with a friend, and when I had made good progress with my staker and my old main kept getting hacked, I just stopped bothering to recover it.

Anyway, accounts are never secure unless you create it yourself. One person I know, however, bought an account and when it was recovered about a year later, he made the case that he was the one who payed membership for a year, and they replaced the info of the original owner even though they essentially knew the account was transferred

Even if they give you the original information they can still recover the account from the original up, sell it again and then let you and the other buyer keep recovering it between you. That's when it gets messy and ends up with the account getting locked and both of you losing out. If you have to recover an account more than 3 times just let it slide for a while before you try again, the other player might quit. Pretty much, unless you trust the user 100%, don't trade accounts with them.

So since I'm the original owner and still on the original IP I will be safe to go ahead and recover? I won't resell it won't risk being scammed again.

Yessir. Send an email to [email protected] explaining that you are OO and you have registration I.P if standard account recovery fails.

just so I can wrap this topic up.. I already did send a thing into to parents and got the account back. I think I got lucky with my response time or something I heard it can take weeks. But now that I got my account back on the original IP and they know that.. What will happen if the person tries to recover it?

Because you've recovered with original ip it's unlikely that they would have another request and accept it within a month. Btw parents usually takes about 1-3 days to reply, it's the others that take weeks.

They mark you as the original owner and essentially turn away anyone else trying to recover the account when they know its being used by more than one person
