I'm calling bullshit on this one.

1. How do they know where you live?
2. I highly doubt Jagex gives 2 shits about you, as long as you're paying them.
3. I never heard of this happening to anyone before & there are lots of trolls on Runescape.

 

If this is true, you got trolled pretty fucking hard.

 

I've heard of them doing this before too. Really though, you can't blame them. If someone reported you for it, and it was brought to their attention, they would look really bad if they didn't do anything about it and you actually killed yourself.

tl;dr: don't joke about killing yourself on Runescape.

I'll be honest I've heard of this happening before a few years ago. I don't know if the other person was bullshitting but I've heard it regardless.

No this is true, or at least its possible for it to happen. All online companies do this, PayPal, Microsoft, Jagex, Valve, ANY company online based and has contact information that you can contact them on and can be tracked.

Basically, if you call up and eventually say you're going to end your life or someone else's, they will call the police instantly. Mainly because if they find you have done something stupid, and they told you and the company didn't do anything, then you're looking at pretty big charges in court. So they put it as a 'better safe than sorry' perspective.

Its easy to stop though, NEVER joke about killing yourself or killing someone else on the net. You can be tracked and there is no way to tell if the person on the other end is joking or not.

 

Sorry I don't understand why you joined this forum for the sole reason of posting that thread?

 

You mentioned you're a member- it's easy enough to track you via billing information and it makes sense. Good job to them.

 

This is pretty ridiculous. Not the fact that they called the cops, but the fact that you made up an entire elaborate story of how you were going to kill your mom... But I guess to each his own!

 

I've heard of similar stuff happening before, so at least you're not alone. It's because if you confess to intending to commit a very serious crime (ie. murder) and JaGex do not act then they could be held liable if you actually end up doing it. If they got taken to court over it they'd get into a very deep pile of shit.

 

Well, by law if you know about someone being abused you have to report it. So I could actually believe this is true. I wouldn't recommend anyone joking about it anymore unless you want a friendly visit from the police.

I think after there was a shit storm about some kid who died no lifing (still not sure if it's serious or a troll) - afterwards they were always pretty good at looking after the well-being of their players.

 

You probably mentioned a buzzword that got filtered out and it wasn't death. People say the word death during pkin etc, so what the heck did you say lol
