Networking help please

To be honest, the second half of this semester I trailed off and obviously missed something VERY important...

I'm not here looking for the "answers", but on how I'm supposed to FIND the answers.


Question:

"IP address and mask - 172.16.32.0/24
Subnet A - 75 hosts
Subnet B - 10 hosts

How many bits are in Subnet A?"


What I need help with:
How do I figure out how many bits are in a subnet with the information given?

 

75 hosts is a very unusual amount of hosts. I don't think it can be written as /d+
00000000 = /24
10000000 = /25
11000000 = /26
Etc

254 - 75 = 179 = 10110011

 

where do you get the 254?

It's got a /24 mask on the IP, so its 255.255.255.0 - I could probably figure it out pretty easily if I know what it is you're subtracting 75 from.

 

Total possible addresses in 172.16.32.0/24 is 256. I'm subtracting the broadcast and network address because they can't be used as host.
