Zaryte doesn't suck

I've seen tons of people sayin that Zaryte sucks and so on...
Well, it does for PK
For pretty much everything else it's awesome.


Rune crossbow vs Zaryte
Accuracy: 90 - 110

Yeah, Zaryte is 2 handed, but what off-hand items gives 30 ranged accuracy bonus?
None.

They're same speed.

Then the damage and price.

Zaryte does same damage than runite bolts.
Rune bolts are around 500gp each atm.
Zaryte bow shoots 60k shots for price of 2M
60 000 runite bolts would cost 30M
And it doesn't have to be 60k, even with 1000 bolts, which go quite fast, you would already save 0.5M by using zaryte.

You can't sell rune bolts after you have fired them, but you can sell the Zaryte bow if needed.
By this I mean that if you think it like "I can buy buttloads of bolts before zaryte gets cheaper"
That is totally wrong. Bolts disappear, Zaryte you can sell after.
Zaryte bow will save you a loooot of money!

Sure you don't lose one bolt per one shot, but still.

With zaryte you don't have to worry about picking up ammo when firing behind obstacles or firing overall without Ava's device.


So, pros and cons for each, rcb and zaryte (For overall use, slayer, leveling etcetc. Not PK:

Rune Crossbow:
+ Able to wield antifire shield or god book for prayer bonus
+ Costs less
- Less accurate
- Costs A LOT more to use (30M vs 2M per 60k shots)
- ^ You will lose money always

Zaryte:
+ More accurate
+ Almost free ammo
+ You dont have to worry about picking up ammo
+ Ava's device isn't really needed
+ You can sell it later and not lose any money because of ammo
- Expensive to buy
- 2 Handed


Now, why would zaryte suck?

After you shoot 100k shots with crossbow, you're already at more than half way to price of zaryte.
If you'd have bought the zaryte in the first place, you would have saved those moeny you spent on bolts, and you can even sell the zaryte if you want and end up with a lot more money.



And if you compare it to void set w/ deflector:

Void range helm + robe bottom + gloves + deflector + rune crossbow + any body with 30 range bonus (3rd age, dhide etc)
has the same accuracy than
Void helm + top + bottom + gloves + zaryte

Only difference being, you can shoot free rune bolts (~500gp ea) with zaryte.



Well, not exactly free.
33gp per shot or 16 if you have 99 smithing.
STILL, 33gp compared to 500gp.

That's actually a very good point you've made there. The only other thing I could see that would beat it would be void w/ deflector and a CCB, but that would only work for very wealthy people. ;p

 

Zaryte is really good for nex, alot better than Chaotic crossbow in my opinion because of your methods posted above. It saves money and is effective

Hardcore rangers, and thats just for stats.

Basicly if you have the money to buy the bow, its the better choice.

I don't use all my bolts immediately when using a crossbow, I either pick them up or have them gathered by my accumulator...so I don't lose much?

I'd also use a Chaotic Crossbow over RCB, because it has more accuracy.

And then there's the shield, which if you have an Elysian/Divine/EEK, that makes a big difference.

 

Your logic is flawed...

No one uses 60k bolts EVER. That's a shit ton, you're 99 range if not almost there.

Not that many people train with rune bolts, majority use diamond e or or mith/addy bolts.

99% of the time you'll be making a profit if you're using rune bolts. Because that means you'll be fighting bosses or drags etc. Who trains on a yak or hill giant with rune bolts?!

Also, the hype was built up for pking. That's why everyone says it sucks. If you're doing PvM, you have a chaotic cbow. Not many people use it for anything because of the price tag and you can't use a shield.

 

Can you please add in that ely/div in your shield placements for bosses.. as that makes x-bows > Zaryte

 

It doesn't have to be 100k or 60k.
Every shot you make with zaryte, you save money.
With 1000 bolts which go quite fast, you save already 0.5M

Then you'd do a lot more damage with zaryte for less cost

Way more profit with zaryte.

Which costs tons to use.

 

Yeah a chaotic cross and an ely/divine is the way to go.

 

For bosses, you're right.
For everything else, if you want to pay 500k+ per hour for using them, sure.

Its cheap to use, but expensive to buy. I LOVE the bow, would much rather use it then chaotic c bow, but its not worth the 85mish its priced at at the moment. i do believe its worth a decent amount of money, more like 50m.

 

good read, good point. I'm 95 range atm and I'm going for 99 lol, I might buy a Zaryte and use it in soul wars but if I buy one is it easy to sell when I'm done with it? if not I think I'll just stick to my CCB and slayer bolts

 

Zaryte seems good on paper but there are few practical uses for it. The reason it sucks is not because it is better than a Rune Crossbow, but because there are no reasons to use it. Sure, if you compare the two in a vaccum it is better than a Rune Crossbow, but that's it basically.

For bosses, CCB is the only option because you can use a shield and better bolts, such as Ruby(e) at Nex. It may be more expensive but Zaryte is too weak to use, and isn't an option.

For PvP you probably want a shield, and possibly better bolts if you are Pking. Even in safe PvP having a shield is much better.

For standard monster killing you want to use something fast like knives or darts anyways. Using a slow weapon is bad DPS, although Z Bow is better than a Rune Crossbow in this scenario you obviously should not be using it.

Yes Zaryte is cheaper, but the reason people only use it at Fight Kiln is because it is simply too situational.

 

You don't understand. You keep counting every shot of a crossbow as costing money, when it simply doesn't (unless you count Chaotic C'bow degrading, which takes 10 hours of constant combat and only costs you 2M if you pay in coins).

People don't just throw away their bolts - they wear Accumulator which automatically picks them up for you, and some people even pick up any spares that have been left behind by the accumulator. So your bolt loss is next to none.

Zaryte sucks balls because you can't use a shield, and you can't retrieve the ammo (meaning that you have a SET COST per shot, as opposed to possibly spending NOTHING).

Okay I did a test.
One hour of leveling, constantly shooting bolts with rune crossbow and Ava's accumulator.

You end up losing around 300-400 bolts per hour.

400 * 500 = 200k
1 hour of chaotic = 200k on top of that

200k + 200k = 400k

400k per hour, happy now? I was 100k off by my estimate.


Ah it feels good to prove these guys wrong who think they know everything ^_^
