    Buying a new computer...

Basically, I'm going to college next year, and I'm planning on buying a netbook for classes, etc. Then, I'm getting a desktop to use for gaming/ big projects(going to be a CS major.) This will be me first computer that I'm personally building because I want to get specs that suit my needs. The question is: Where should I buy from? What parts should I buy? (I have several thousand dollars to spend, so money is not an object.) Are there any easy-to-follow guides to make putting it together easier?

Thanks guys for all your help ahead of time! :)

If you're picky, and want to know how to build a computer then build one. But, you'll be able to get a computer for cheaper if you buy it pre-built. I would buy a powerful pre-built computer, and just put a nice graphics card in it. That way you'd be set.

Agreed, just get a cheap laptop.

Buy all your parts at newegg.

Don't buy factory build towers, your wasting your money.

Get an I7, 8Gb of Ram, Radeon 5770's, ASUS sabertooth mobo and 700W of power and your good. Will cost you a little under 1k$

I suggest you buy parts from newegg, and hit up guru3d, bit-tech, hardOCP or anandtech to do some reading up before you buy. Things can change a lot in just a few weeks in the computer industry.

And don't buy a netbook, they're pathetically slow. Better to get a cheap laptop instead.

Isn't that the other way around?
