My Macbook Air 2013 [true story]

So i went on craglist, i found someone selling a Macbook Air 2013 base model + a $50 Speck Case.

I bought it for $950

then i was listening to music and watching movies i noticed the macbook air made some static niose, etc, i thought something was wrong with the speakers. So i made a appointment at the apple genius bar. The guy looked at it, did some tests etc, and said the speakers or something else was wrong with it. It has a 1year warranty, he said he can order parts{free} and fix it {free} i was like ok. Then i thought and said can you just replace it, {give me a new one} He said did you buy it at this apple store. I was like no, i bought it on craglist, he said it can only be replaced if i bought it at that specific store. So i was like watever, go ahead order the parts and fix it, as i was leaving the apple store, i texted the guy who sold me the macbook air i was like where did you but it, he told me the apple store, and guess what it was the exact same store that i was at. So i told that to apple employee, that looked at my macbook air, he then talked to a sales guy, and they replaced it by giving me a brand new 2013 Macbook air.

So in the end i ended up getting a Brand new Macbook air + a speck case
total cost $1100+ $104.41 tax, + $50 case.

i only paid $950.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but half the price is for the little Apple logo.

thanks Tmoe, and yea maby apple is a bit over priced, in the end but its worth it, apple products don't break often. They are built to last, a very long time.

 

Air 2013 is not that much of a ripoff. Look at any other PC with similar specs that *doesn't* have a haswell chip and it will actually be more expensive. You're not paying for the logo you're paying for the sex appeal. The fact that the laptop weighs 1.5 pounds, is like 2 millimetres thick, and might break if you blow on it the wrong way.

This is my laptop http://puu.sh/4RYwJ.jpg that I got on sale (open box) for ~$800. The i5 128gb 13.3 inch version of the zenbook is $900. For the air it's $1000 with the student discount. Air has better and newer hardware. Only reason I'm sticking with the Zenbook is because.. wait.. why am I. Shit I'm gonna go buy that mac.

 

do it, the keyboard and track pad are so good.

 

I actually really like the Zenbook. Less chance of getting stolen. And I get the i7 and more storage space with this one.

Windows 8 though..

A chromebook has an awful operating system, a 30gb hard drive, and like a 1.1ghz celeron. Can't download things, is heavier, has worse battery, has a smaller screen, is awful for writing essays, can't play any games etc.

 

Macs are shit and for people who want to feel self-important/hipster/stabucks/faggots.

I can go and buy a steambox equivalent for $1000 and stream media, play Crysis 2 on ultra, and carry it around with me and do more cool shit for the same price.

No, hence my suggestion of getting something lighter like a chrombook exclusively for school.

If by an awful operating system you mean a lightweight linux distro that is meant to boot quickly and not take up much resources, sure. Also believe it or not you can...REPLACE operating systems. For a period of time I was running ubuntu off of mine.

It has like a 10 second boot, its light, slim, has 6+ hours of battery life and its inexpensive. For carrying around to class and taking notes its excellent. Its not meant for gaming, downloading files, or typing out entire essays on...

That's why I'm saying bring something like a chromebook to school for internet research and taking notes. Then buy a REAL desktop/laptop/gaming console for use at home for all that other stuff. Whatever he gets for his $950 will sure as hell be better than a macbook, that much I can guarantee.

In no way am I comparing a macbook to a chromebook. I'm just saying its not worth spending $1k+ on an under-powered computer just because its portable. He would be better off with a lightweight netbook + something else.

 

My organic chem textbook weighs 8 pounds Nero. gen chem is 4 pounds. Answer manual is 4 pounds. Calculator, notebooks, weight of the bag/food/whatever else is in there.

Last think I need is another ugly as fuck 10 pound laptop with half the battery life just because I can.. play videogames on it with high quality... at school?

 

You paid $950 for something used, when the new price is $1250? Not a good idea, could have probably even got a refurbished one for less than that.
