WoW newbie and would like to get into the game

I first played the game back in Early 2015 and I liked it, I like MMORPG as I have played other games with the same genre too but I do have questions. Was familiar of Wow years back but never had the chance to play it until then.

    - Is it (still) worth paying monthly for a subscription? If yes, why?

    - Do I have to put most of my gaming hours into the game to make it really worth it?

    - Is it worth it to buy the latest expansion? Will it expand my experience in the game or will it make no difference at all?

    - I've heard this thing where people could grind in game for some currency and then swap it with 1 month subscription, I do not know this and would like to know it.

    Thanks.

Pay for a month and see if you think it's worth it. I personally don't have a sub running at the moment, but when I did I absolutely loved the game / new expansion. For me, it boiled down to not having enough time from being hooked on League/OW at the moment. I am a die hard WoW fan, but I just don't have the free time like I used to a few years back to really give this game the attention I want to.

    - Do I have to put most of my gaming hours into the game to make it really worth it?

WoW has evolved into what you want it to be. If you want to PvP, you can run hardcore RBG's/Arenas, or just hop into a random battleground and be on an even playing field because they normalize ilvl in PvP.

If you like to PvE, you can join a dedicated mythic+ Guild and raid for 20+ hours a week, or queue up for LFR and experience the same content on demand.

Some say Blizz has ruined the game because of how casual it has become, but honestly I just enjoy being able to play without having to sink hours / weeks / months into grinding before being able to experience the newest raid or get the newest tier gear.

    - Is it worth it to buy the latest expansion? Will it expand my experience in the game or will it make no difference at all?

All the expansion will allow you to do is level from 100 to 110, and allows you to play the Deamon Hunter class. Many say this is the best expansion yet so I would honestly recommend purchasing it if you have any characters sitting at 100 and a desire to play end game content.

    - I've heard this thing where people could grind in game for some currency and then swap it with 1 month subscription, I do not know this and would like to know it.

It's not just some currency, you can just use gold. Just go to the AH and you can buy a 1 month token. They work almost identically to bonds, where you purchase them with real $$$, then you have the option to consume it on your account, or sell it on the AH for gold. Once it's traded, it can't be traded again (so you can't flip them).

Yes, there is so much content and it's overall a good game to play with friends. That being said it can still be fun to play alone. There are so many things you can do to improve your character.

    - Do I have to put most of my gaming hours into the game to make it really worth it?
No, but if you want to be ahead of a lot of people you need to play everyday and do the world quests at max level.

    - Is it worth it to buy the latest expansion? Will it expand my experience in the game or will it make no difference at all?
You need the new expansion to experience any content that matters at the moment. You also get a free level 100 if you do.

Yes they are just like bonds in runescape

Thanks for the infos, for the response above me, is that free 100 level boost only for a single character? or do you get it for all your characters? Assuming I have a level 20 character and 3 characters that are lvl 2-6, do I only get to choose which one of them gets the boost?

In my opinion it's worth paying $60 for the full game + $15 for the first month because the game is fun and once you reach the max level you can easily grind enough gold to get wow tokens and never pay for game time again.

On a side note I spent $75 and sold my character for $350 since it was full mythic geared

    - Do I have to put most of my gaming hours into the game to make it really worth it?
Not really, but if you do spend a lot of time every day you'll progress faster than other players.

You should always buy the latest expansion.

It's called a wow token. I haven't played retail since patch 6.2 in wod, but I used to join heroic trash farm runs and sell the drops that I got to pay for my game time.

I know the feeling. I started WoW in 2007 briefly, but quit fast. Came back in 2014, quit again. Idk what it is. The game is really, really fucking good. But I could just never fully understand it. I feel like whenever I did content catered towards beginners there was always a litany of alternate accounts ridiculing me for being a legitimately new player. Unfortunately I missed the boat where all of my RL friends played the game and was permanently left behind.

Good luck getting back into it. I usually try a few months in the year but it never sticks. Shame because I do think World of Warcraft is a legendary game.

I still play WoW and I am completely in love with this current expansion, no you don't have to put TONS of time in either - They have world dailies which give you an option of rewards including epic gear, granted yes it took me a bit of time to work out what I was doing and where to start etc.

The world dailies (you complete 4 as a mission objective) you complete you also get a chest that can vary with what you receive, sometimes an item that you can use and other times gold and so on.

I've been playing since 9 months after vanilla came out and have played the game off and on since Wrath of the Lich King. People are saying really good things about the expansion but those same people have since stopped playing. WOW eventually gets to a point where you have to either commit to endgame raiding to keep the game intense and gratifying, or start extending into PVP and hardcore arena grinding which gets idiotically redundant.

Personally, I will always love WOW. But like most MMORPGs, eventually the game gets old. WOW will never recapture what it was when it came out and expecting anything else is expecting too much.

I hear good things about Black Desert. Try that out instead.
