    Dangerous Dogs

Dangerous dogs and the laws which surround them are a pretty big topic in the UK. There is a huge amount of controversy about which dogs are dangerous and which are not, how these dogs are recognised and ultimately whether they should be allowed to be kept as pets. Currently the dogs that are banned in the UK are the Pit Bull Terrier, the Japanese tosa, the Dogo Argentino and the Fila Brasileiro

The Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991 is given below:
I have a Jack Russel who is just over a year old now, and in the past month she has been attacked by 3 different dogs. She is very, very small and she would not have any chance at all if another dog managed to sink its teeth in to her.

A few weeks ago a massive dog of unknown breed (pretty sure it was a Pitbull though) pulled its owner over and attacked my dog. Thankfully it was muzzled but it crushed her and gave her severe bruising. It was snarling and kept hitting her with its paws and it's jaw. Had it not been muzzled then I hate to think what would have happened. The owner was in no way fit to own this dog, it was pulling her along on it's lead. My dog was on the lead at the time and was not doing anything to provoke the other dog.

Today 2 Pitbull Terriers (unmuzzled and off the lead) went for her and bundled her to the ground, snarling and snapping at her, and we just managed to scoop her up before they bit her. Even after we had got her off the ground they were jumping up, snarling, snapping and being extremely aggressive. She had done absolutely nothing to provoke them, she was just trotting along next to us.

Having been on the recieving end of all this I am firmly against any kind of dog that has shown significant signs of aggression being allowed to exist. If it was up to me, any dog which posed a big risk to another person or animal would be put down. I'm probably hugely biased here, so I want to here your opinions. Post away!

all dogs can be dangerous when they want to be, just depends what situation. Although some dogs are said to be more vicious (if that's how you spell it), but some dogs of the same breed are not dangerous. So it all depends on the nature of that specific dog, rather than the breed. There's a husky who live in my road - http://www.breederretriever.com/photopost/data/635/medium/siberian.jpg -(picture of the same type of dog from www.breederretriever.com) and they are said and look to be vicious, although this dog is friendly.

My friend once told me that a dog can be aggressive because of their genes, and the way they were bred. Aggressive dogs who are bred with another aggressive dog, are likely to have aggressive puppies and so on.

Dog training plays a huge part in their behavior as well, so if that lady was just getting dragged around by her dog, it's likely she didn't or couldn't train them properly. I've seen loads of dogs which should be banned under the dangerous dogs act walking around on the street, and most of them do not seem to be aggressive at all.

Personally, I hate Pitbulls and Rottweilers and they have always scared the shit out of me since I was a little kid. Too many people around here own those types of dogs, particularly young wanna-be gangster kids in their 20's (unfortunately this is around my age so I end up interacting with them from time to time), and I've known various dealers to "protect" their house with Rotties aswell.

If the person is big and aggressive themselves and able to control their dogs, it may not be as big of a deal, but I see far too many skinny little white kids walking down the street with a massive 100lb dog that would tear them to pieces if it wanted to. Its also fairly common around here to see news stories about those types of dogs randomly attacking people, it happens once in awhile and people have even died/been permanently disfigured because of these violent dogs.
