Wordpress themes, CSS, and other things I know nothing about

Weeell I've been looking into this whole starting a website thing, just as a creative outlet for myself. I've been looking into a wordpress theme, but I know nothing about them. In fact, the one thing I do know is that I don't want an ugly one. I've been looking at these two:

Here's what I'm having trouble with: I'm very inexperienced with the coding behind websites and would prefer some sort of interface to be able to tweak settings, rather than scrolling through code trying to find what I want. I like the first theme much more than the second, but I believe the second has said interface included. Because of my general inexperience with websites, I'm unable to tell if the first theme would be as easy to set up as the second.

Let me know which theme you think is the sexiest, and has the best features, etc.. In case it matters, I mostly want to showcase some of my work, along with tutorials. I may want the versatility to sell products, too.
