Lets get the origin of my guitar....

Ok in all serious-ness, I think this guitar is older then anyone left alive. Reasons for believing this, there is barely any information about the company (Not even a Wiki!!) and the guitar papers (ones on inside) look age worn. I am not sure what to say. No matter how hard I try I can not find a year, a date, or even a picture of the guitar I have. So lets try

    Company gagliano...

What the front looks like. 6 strings. Acoustic.

Just the back of it for indefication, there is not lettering or anything on it.

The papers inside of it. It says (going from top to bottom)
    "Made in WEST - GERMANY"
"690" (I can not figure out why this is here. It is above the other things, as if it was stamped)
    "Gagliano"
    "by C . MEISEL & CO."

Very big thanks for any useful information on it

After some looking around, I'd say it's made by a company named Hofner anywhere from the 40's-70's, the guitar was made under the name Gagliano. I can't account for the west germany thing though, as Hofner is a US-Distributor. Maybe one of the companies they bought the guitars from is based in West Germany. Yea, they were Kay Harmony and Hopf. Try looking with those names, you might find more. Dunno much about acoustic guitars.

Ah, no. It was something like www.geartalk.com or something like that...It was a guy asking almost the same thing you are, I thought it might have been you. People there said they never heard of Gagliano making guitars only accordians and other instruments.

I too have an old Gagliano by C. Miesel & Co, West Germany. It has a number 700 stamped inside the sound box. I got it around 1995.

I tried to restring it but it is missing one of the bevel gears that turns the string reel and tightnes the string. Also, that knob is cracked and ready to break. I probably need a whole set of the tuning apparatus for that side. Our local "Guitar Works" shop, Richmond, VA said it is not a standard and I probably need to start thinking about buying a new one. No, not going for it. Should be able to find something on this.

    Any help out there?
