If I recall correctly the ancient Mayan calender was actually two calenderS; Plural. It is taught they used 260 and 365 day calenders. These were used in conjunction to create a 52 Year CYCLE (18980 Days Exact)
Therefore I conclude there is no end to the Mayan Calender. If refering to the end of a cycle and beginning of a new cycle: the Mayans feared every single "endcycle" believing their dieties would not grant them another 52 years. This "end of the world scenario" happened every 52 years since then. And it is rather funny to see the Myths it has created. I would not lose a minute of sleep worrying about the end of the world during any further endcycles.
But interestingly enough the Mayans developed their calender well, considering they would generally survive 40-50 years and not see two exact dates.

A college friend of mine researched the subject and if this is true at all, it's more likely a huge change is going to happen. I have no evidence to back that, cause I don't know where he researched. Someone might want to look into it.

In my opinion,
This calendar, although as accurate as it is, was made by an ancient civilization. These are the same people who believed in a god that walked the street of Palenque at night looking for men to have sex with. If they did, the gods vagina, which had teeth, would eat the man's genitalia off. I'm not making this up.
They also threw baby into wells as sacrifice. For guess what? The fertillity god.
