Why time travel will never be possible.

I really don't see why the government would hide this if they actually have seen humans/other-species come back in time. Think about it, if you could travel back and forth in time, would you?

Think about making money, and then the government.. It fits right?

EDIT: Also, for the people saying time travel is impossible, what was the first ever computer like? I bet people didn't even think about making a computer, and I bet they also thought it was impossible.

Well, the parallel universe theory suggests that whenever a decision is made, there is a new universe created. This means there is basically an infinite number of universes, many of which are very near-exact replicas of our own. This theory would explain the paradox created by time travel, as it would allow for different scenarios to be created simultaneously. Essentially, you would not actually be traveling back in time in your own universe, but instead traveling to a universe that is an exact duplicate in every way to your universe in that previous point in time.

Thats deep, never even read that theory. :o

Most people theorize that if an object can travel faster than the speed of light, then it can travel back in time by "chasing" the light of the past. This is impossible for a variety of reasons:
-An object traveling at a speed greater than that of light would have to have an infinite amount of kinetic energy, violating the laws of thermodynamics.
-Even if one managed to "chase" the light, it would only be like watching a movie; you cannot interact with light as the actions have already occurred

That being said, there is always the possibility of parallel universes, etc. Nevertheless, time travel will indubitably always be something of mere fantasy.

Well i forget what theory it is or whatever. But if a mother has twins and one baby stays on earth, and one is shot in to space and travels at near light speeds constantly for everyday of his life. When the twin on earth is like 14-16? the one in space will only be 10.And faster than the speed of light is impossible because youd need to be faster than energy itself or something like that.

They say in black holes not even light can escape. So they are essentially bending the light in. If you can bend light, you can bend time.So if two objects traveling at near light speed, or light speed well prepelled at each other bother heading towards a black hole and it bent them in and the light, if it can bend light wouldnt it also be possible for it to bend time?

or.. wel could also consider.. we cant exist in 2 places at once, if we exist in the present we could not exist in the future at the same time, because every action i make or dont make, would effect my self in the future. Which leads to the theory of alternate dementions. Which leads back to my 2 ojects traveling at light speed theory. if two objects traveling at light speed were to collide wouldnt the force and speed, essentially tear time and space? maybe im just bsing here but, super novas like when stars collapse in on themselfs, create black holes right? well if 2 objects traveling at light speed were to hit what would happen? would they explode? or would the speed be so great they are foced backwards possibly at speeds excelling the speed they were going or collapsing in on them selfs, ripping time and space /alternate deminsion thingy.

who knows lol.

You are referring to time dilation, a side-effect of frames of reference. Everybody still lives the same amount of time int their frame of reference but the perceived amount of time from a fixed frame (let's say Earth) would be different for those in different frames. This is technically not time travel as nobody goes into the past and time still passes normally for all parties involved.

but what if we are living in a time where it should be but when they time travel it is actually the present for them but is played out as if it were the past. what i mean is they could see things that occured and live with them without effecting us.

Quantum Physics tells us that time travel simply cannot be achieved due to the lack of subatomic particles in a warp stream, although, some people like to think that black holes are really doors that life from the future open to enter our dimension. We know that there are parallel universes, and we know that black holes have some correlation to dark matter, which is evidence that time travel is possible.

i think it's impossible.

I mean people say like

Oh. the people back then thought flying was impossible..
but the Wright brothers made a flying plane and such..

but look..
that's just physics and like physical shit

TIME? SPACE? we have no control over that
its just a totally different story here..
we can't even grasp the whole knowledge of time and space, or even the size of space.. or infinite space.

and also like what shredder said...if someone goes back and changes history...what now? does another universe form?

although i beleive teleporting is possible :)

scientist have already found how to teleport 'lasers'

but i have doubts too..
cuz what they do is take molecule by molecule and transfer it

take a human apart? molecule by molecuel? hmm

w/e its just something i have hopes for :)
sry for the randomness

Here is a paradox that does not center around human "will" (i.e., choices, decisions, desires, etc.), although "will" plays a part. This is not physics, but, I suppose, a "philosophical" thought experiment...

Let's assume that I built a time machine that can send (and receive) messages sent back into the past. Let's say I built the machine a week ago and switched on the transmitter and receiver (on Jan. 30, at 10:00 PM), but haven't sent or received any messages yet. Today (Feb 6, 10:00 PM) is the first time I will try to use it, so I go ahead and send a message back to the day and time I built the machine (a week ago). Let's say the machine works perfectly. But who is there in the past (on Jan. 30) to receive the message? I'm in the present now, not the past! Wouldn't I also have to travel back in time to get the message?

You might argue, "You would have received the message as soon as you turned on the machine (on Jan. 30)." A good point -- well done! However, that in itself is the heart of the paradox. I already told you when I turned the machine on, nothing special happened - I did not receive any messages. But you argue that I am cheating here (or lying) because I MUST have received a message when I first turned it on!

If I am, in fact, telling the truth, it suggests that the concept of "past" is an illusion - there is no past to travel back to - the past no longer exists, but has forever transformed itself into the eternal present. There can never be anyone or anything in the past to receive messages from the "future" or present. In fact, the concepts of both "past" and "future" are illusory. The only reality is present.

If I am lying, and I did receive a message as soon as I turned on the machine, then you are quite right to use words like "you must have" and "you had no choice". When I received the massage, I had NO CHOICE but, at some point in the future, to send a message back to Dec. 30, 10:00 PM. Let's say the message read "on Feb. 6 at 10:00 PM, send this message back to Jan. 30 at 10:00 PM" I must admit that I feel quite awkward about this on January 4 because I have received a message that I have not sent yet - talk about pressure! Bloody hell, I had better set an alarm clock, and be sure I don't make any typo's when sending the message!

But let's throw a wrench in the works and assume that for whatever reason I decided, a priori, before completing work on the machine, that if the time machine works, I will destroy it, but if it does not work, I will not destroy it. So when I finish work on the machine, let's say I turn it on, and receive a message. Accordingly, I destroy the machine. But then I could not have sent the message, thus I could not have received the message, and therefore I would have no reason to destroy the machine. Since I had no reason to destroy the machine, I would have sent the message (out of curiosity - to find out if the machine worked), and thus would have received the message and destroyed the machine. But if the machine was destroyed, I could not have sent the message...

You're absolutely right. In that situation, that is where the hypothesis of alternative universes would come in.

Well... there's plenty things faster than the speed of light:
Ultra Violet, X Rays, Gamma Rays

But I don't think we'll ever be able to make any common matter... such as human tissue etc, to travel at that speed.

Also, I like to think that everyone only exists in the current time. So if you went back to an earlier period, there would be, literally, NOTHING there.

Incorrect. Those things are light on different parts of the spectrum. They travel no faster than the speed of light in a vacuum.

I'm afraid your argument is horribly flawed....

There is no way to know if something is possible until it has been done.

Also..as far as teleportation goes...it would make more sense to copy every molecule and then recreate elsewhere...then destroy the original.

That'd be rather disturbing though.

You would simply exist in an alternate dimension with the inability to change anything, as if you were a third party. That seems to make the most logical sense to me; this topic intrinsically wasn't logical to me in the first place though.

Shredder, you can travel faster than the speed of light if we were able to take advantage of worm holes, which may lead to time travel. We just have to find a way to get past the singularity, and find a way to even get close to the nearest black hole that supposedly exists.

Slowing down time is possible though..Just travel faster than the speed of light.

isnt this impossiable?

also on when u say we would meet people from the future already?

what if they didnt want us to know about it so that we did not ruin the future?

or they did not want that kinda world wide attenion?

IMPOSSIBLE TO TIME TRAVEL

a computer is one thing time travel is another, not comparable to whoever said that. besides we got the technology for computers from aliens!

This topic is endless. We have all came to the conclusion that time travel is impossible, at least for the time being.
