Why the 100 different "pures"?

Alright, let's have a nice discussion here on 'What is a pure to you'? Basically, over the generations
of RuneScape players and accounts we have experienced all different types of accounts. Back in 2005
to 2006 when I started to play, I experienced a 'pure' account. Back in the day, if you were a 'pure'
that basically you meant you had one Defence, OR you were PURE Defence (no other stats) and you would be pure range, mage, or strength OR a hybrid (multiple styles) or a tribrid (all 3 styles).

Over the years, I have stuck with my original idea of a pure. A pure to me is either one defence, with
other combat trains, or you're PURE one combat stat, in which case "DEFENCE PURE" is the only other
type of account with defence I would give PURE as a label. Over the years, the word pure to me has
been completely corrupted, let me show you why.

PURES
1 Defence Pure
13 Defence Pure (addy gloves)
20 Defence Pure (initiate pure)
33 Defence around here (turmoil pure)
PVP armour pure (whatever def that is)
Rune Pure
Void Pure
Zerker Pure
Barrows Pure
Piety Pure
Rigour Pure


Basically, for every unlock in this game and every new glove or armor there is some new type of 'pure'
To me, anything that is not one defence can be labelled as a 'pker' and not a pure. To me, it makes
much more sense to label accounts as pkers if this is the case.

Addy Glove Pker (13 defence)
Initiate Pker (20 defence)
Rune Pker (40 defence)
Zerker pker (45 defence)

And so on and so fourth.

I don't really know how you classify "pures" as I've heard everything from a 99 attack build to a 99 defence account described as a "pure".

An obby mauler with 1 attack - 99 strength and 99 defence I've had described as a "Pure".

I always thought that a "Pure" was 1 defence always(in the old days that's how it was) now adays its just whatever people feel like calling it lol.

 

Exactly what I'm getting at, the first type of 'pure' was a 1 Defence pure for aggressive offensive stats.

Over time, with every new armour/weapon is a different type of 'pure'

"I'm a 99 Defence Pure" should be labelled "I'm a 99 Pure Defence account"

And "I'm a Rune / Zerker / Piety Pure" should be "I'm a Rune/ Zerker / Piety PKER"

 

I don’t think anyone says “I’m a zerker pure”, but rather “I’m a zerker” or “I’m a voider”..

 

It's been said many, many, many times.

"Im a void pure" - If you haven't heard this one many times you don't play enough >_<

 

The term has evolved.
“Pure”
Now seems to mean “More than / Primarly”

If you are a Void Pure, you’re primarily built for max Use of void.
Rune Pure
Max build for Rune
NH Pure
Built for max Tribridding Overhead prots.
Etc.

If you want to talk about some annoying stuff that is VERY Wisbey washy, it’s what a “Maxed” Pker is.

I still think a pure should be one defence, with exception of pure defence. Even then, it's pure defence not defence pure.
Anything else should be followed up with pker.

 

First time I heard someone calling a 99 Defence account a pure.
I know a lot of people call it a Tank

a maxed pure to me is 99str 99 att 99hp 99 range 99 magic 99Prayer
Its same with range tank(people calling range tanks with 75att 70str 99hp 99magic 99range 77pray 99def maxed when its not)

 

Prayer is up for debate. I agree with you, Prayer back in 2008 was definitely considered part of the “Maxed Pure” requirements.
People are a lot more wise these days and for the most part, 99 Prayer actually ruins builds. Unless you’re intentionally trying to be 126 Cb

 

When I think of a pure I think of 1 defense, nothing else. Defense pure can be the one exception, 99 defense and no other combat

Yeah i have always considered "pure" as a 1 defence account.

 

Only pures who go 99prayer are people who like to clan due its harder to get smited for +1

 

The purpose of being a pure (the actual 07 era) was to have higher dps output then people the cb combat level as you. In that era the majority of people where "mains" with rounded stats 80-80-80 and low prayer and low mage. Someone with 99 /99 / 1 and barrage would completely terrorize these kinds of accounts. From that concept of "overpowering" a whole set of different account builds sprouted with the intent to have an edge over "mains" but also other "pure" builds.

Over the years and due to the introduction of new items / prayers and just general game knowledge the community just exploded with new builds with the intention to be become best in bracket and IMO that's exactly what a "pure" is (in 2018 anyways). An account with the intend to "abuse" an advantage others don't have (FI, rune pures: veng and b gloves / pures with 99 attack and low risk etc. etc.)

Tldr; In my opinion any build that lacks in a certain aspect but excels in another could be called a "pure" if those area's it excels in outweigh the area's it lacks in. The discussion if one build is by default stronger then another is another or what terminology should be used for each specific "pure" is another topic.

 

Real range tanks are 99 attack /49 strength /99 defense /99 hp / 99 prayer / 99 range / 99 mage anyways ;-)

Another thing I would like to throw out there, is RuneScape theory vs definition. Back in the thriving Era of RuneScape PURE would mean to be 1 Defence for sure. Pure by definition is "Free of a substance" and if you tie it into RS theory, a 'pure' would be free of Defence.
