What’s a notable scam story you have witnessed or experienced yourself?

Any member of Sythe knows, or usually quickly finds out, that scamming in the community has and will likely always be a prevalent issue.

I’ve read through some particularly scummy scam reports in the past, and it sparked the question: what is a notable scam story you have witnessed or experienced yourself?

The story could be uncommon, scummy, or even funny. Just interested to hear the responses, especially from long standing community members. Cheers.

 

I was tricked once... when I needed to order paper for study and I lost me money because of bad people there. After that situation I used to ask for help only trusty services like Paidpaper and they provided me really good papers as soon as possible. Here is my advise - use only safely services and that's all

 

Lmfao exchanging money in a rip-off exchange in Prague.

 

Been scammed once with fake screenshots of bank transfers which the scammer made really fast and looked really legit

 

There are some pretty insane ones. Like Chival, Bolt, etc...

 

Some guy with a friend who impersonated a middleman wanted to buy gold from me. Fast forward to Lumbridge church, when I traded the middleman the gold (about 80M), both of them took off running as fast as they could like you would do in real life. I chased them down, lost them, but had a giggle of how they actually ran and tried to lose me in the game, just like they stole something from me in person.

Now a more depressing scam, a guy named Bolt lost a shit ton of money (not sure but I saw some people saying that on the forum) and basically walked up to his bank to mark every transaction from the last 6 months on PayPal as an unauthorized transaction, resulting in dozens of people losing their money, including me. Outcome for me: negative paypal balance of hundreds of dollars, 30 calls from PayPal and a collection agency on my ass. Long live the internet! Lessons learned though and a very good wake up call, you can never, NEVER, be too careful.

Never trust screenshots ever again. There's really no skills needed to make 100% legit looking transaction screenshots, simply press F12 and you can literally edit all content on any website using DevTools and take a screenshot of it.
