Why dont you guys use chat?

I mean, IRC used to be such a popular thing when I was actually active back in '08-'09 :/

If sythe had an integrated IRC back then, the spam forum would have been deserted in favor of it.

I used to hang out there for awhile. It was 99% noobs coming in with questions. If the 'request for staff action' rule was lifted, and staff started hanging out in there, more people would follow & it would become active imo (though it does need a bit of an update).

Btw - since the minor user name change update, people's sythechat names might need to be changed as well.

 

I thought that would help with popularity as well. Maybe even making it mandatory to sit in sythechat just to be readily available to answer questions. Like a live-chat sort of thing. Or hiring mods specifically tasked with that, but then again....

As sythe pointed out, half of the appeal IRC held years ago was that it wasn't so heavily patrolled by sythe staff. It was an offsite, no-liability environment where people could bullshit without worrying about it affecting their status on sythe.org, so I figured, while it would make it a good place for mod assistance, it would kill the vibe for ANY OTHER type of usage, especially by spam forum type conversations

 

I've clearly given this too much thought, hue.

 

What could people not say in Sythechat (or IRC) that can't be said in the spam forum for example?

These are all unattractive in hindsight, but I'll admit it's fun to get into it when you're in the moment. I can imagine that type of shit would result in a chat ban if the chat rules are any more tight than spam forum's

and as a place that's encouraged to facilitate trading, I'm sure the standards are meant to be a little higher
