Question about avatars

First of all, is it possible for non-donors to set a custom picture of their name beside their avatar like what "Pure Addiction" has?

Second, can non-donors set transparent avatars? Every time I try to set a png image, a default white or black background appears.

 

Having an image as your username (UI) is a special perk available only to $200+ donors and staff members.

As for your second question, I think that happens when the image you set is larger than the allowed dimensions (80x80? for non-donors). When it is resized to fit, a white or black background also appears.
