I'm all for it, I knew a girl who'd smoke a spliff at school whenever she got the chance and still came out top of the class, It doesn't fuck with you mentally.

Shouldn't be legal, should definitely be penalized less. Cali is on the right track with it.

It doesnt fuck with you mentally? try hoofing 10x bongs a day for 5 years+ and then going cold turkey see the effects it has on you then.. people forget it is actually a drug that can be severely abused, people who say otherwise are the 420 generation who think weed is life lol. Smoking a joint a day isnt gonna do shit to you yea but you cant say it doesnt fuck with you mentally

I smoked that much and for that long then stopped. It doesn't change your mental state much. However it changes the people and places you're around. It doesn't really effect school either. I took a physics class in the summer that was split into two sessions. One session I smokes the other I didn't. I got a C+ in both the classes. Smoking is a small hindrance, but not that much, especially compared to abusing other drugs.

Why are people against marijuana still, in 2014?

Let me preface this by mentioning that I am writing this while somewhat high.

My number one issue with pot is that it causes a general feeling of apathy. If smoked on a regular basis, this can cause apathy for the important things in life, such as school/work; not only is this okay, but you are happy being sub-par.
However, recreationally and socially used, marijuana is an excellent social lubricant and a fun time that is more healthy for you, your life, and others around you. Nobody gets violent on pot; the only one in danger is the refrigerator.

Secondly, I wish to address the idea that marijuana is a gateway drug; this is bullshit. My first drug was actually oxycontin. If you are going to display addictive tenancies, you will progress onward unless you get an intervention no matter what drug you started on. True stoners actually find the idea of other, non-natual drugs disgusting because they are just that.

In my opinion, marijuana was only made illegal because it gave the government a good reason to arrest all the anti-war hippies back in 1970's. There is a great documentary on the whole illegal and legal marijuana business called "The Union: The Business Behind Getting High"

In general, the current status of marijuana nationwide only gives money into the hands of drug dealers, and puts our children into the company of bad people. The very nature of the illegal status of the drug makes it more alluring to kids, the "forbidden fruit."

As a Florida citizen, I am quite disappointed that we were off by 2%, I really think this bill was a good thing. However I think that by the time this generation is starting to have grandchildren, pot will be legal in a majority of states. There is really nothing besides social prejudice keeping marijuana from being legal.

Reductio ad absurdum. Most people don't smoke that much, and when blown out of proportion ANYTHING can fuck with you mentally. Caffeine, gym, working, studying, socialising, being alone, pornography, videogames, sex and even sleeping can mess with your mental state if you blow them out of proportion. Your argument is rendered moot.

I smoke weed on occasion and my grade point average is between distinction and high distinction - i.e. the highest grades you can actually get. The lowest grade I have ever gotten is a credit and that's only because I scored less than 75% on the final despite being over 85% average grade. In other words, for a reasonable amount of weed for me and most people I know it will affect neither your academic ability nor your life goals.

As far as affecting you mentally, you're right that it does, but "fuck" isn't the word I'd use. It has helped me socialise with severe depression which has bordered on suicide in the past, and subsequently has helped me to feel better about life in general. The worst it has ever "fucked me up" was when I ate so much I didn't have the will to move.

Because Nancy Grace and people like her exist. Sadly, there is a lot of them, and to get a job in politics you have to do what gets you the most votes, rather than what you believe in. I believe there might be a few people in positions of power that are openly for it, but I doubt it. I'd imagine they wouldn't be in the position they were in if they openly said they were pro-marijuana. But I promise you that will change when people start dying and our generations start taking over. It's starting to happen slowly since California. Now it's pretty much accesible in half the country if you're willing to drive 2 hours and possibly fake an illness to a doctor. I'm not even going to waste time googling it because I don't care but I wouldn't be surprised if there is doctor recommendations on marijuana forums.

Does anyone else find the weed situation in D.C ironic? lol

Wouldn't that make it legal for Obama to puff a doob in his office? I think this could be a new conspiracy theory.

It's extremely damaging long term. Both physically and mentally.
However I still believe it should be legal, because alcohol and other legal OTC drugs are also damaging, some even more so.

Smoking in general is not widely accepted, especially that of the elderly. The government plays a big role in the misunderstanding of marijuana. You can give all the facts you want to an advocate of keeping it illegal, that shows it has benefits, and is less harmful than tobacco, and they will disregard it, only to claim the product itself leads to arbitrary danger.

The gateway theory is a legitimate claim, although statistically it may prove to be hardly significant. After over thinking it, it does make sense in a way. If you smoke weed long enough, it does become sort of a pushover drug (especially when your lungs get used to it), and to get a "bigger/better high", you resort to a drug of a higher level. For example, a casual weed smoker, would eventually upgrade to smoking high grade hash (dabs) to get a more intense high, and so forth.

You can't really come to a conclusion like that by observation of that one girl.
Some people it screws with, some it doesn't. Cannabis is very damaging, end of. I'm even an ex smoker and even admitted it when I smoked.

Too many people are praising it like it does no damage. Regardless of my thoughts on it I do believe it should be legalized.

Absolutely anything is damaging if overdone. I've yet to see your sources of information or the basis upon which you build your definition of "very damaging"

Wait, what? Probably the most damaging part of cannabis is how it is a gateway drug. How is it "very damaging"? Sure, it is unhealthy, but definitely not "very damaging".

It's just like any other drug/narcotic/alcohol/etc... Marijuana can be used without causing any damage, but it's the people who don't control the use and just try to get as high as they possibly can everyday who give the evidence of it "fucking up your mind".. It's just like alcohol, a drink(beer) or two a day won't cause much harm, but when you drink a lot of it, it can seriously fuck you up.

I smoke every day and I can say it's not harmful until brought upon by yourself.

I guess what I'm getting at is you don't have to pull 5+ bong rips every hour, because that can just make things "harmful" i guess.. One rip can last me for an hour-two hours, and I just experience my high. I don't do it to get super fucked up, I just do it to be high, and it doesn't matter how high to me. That is how I feel people should be about it as well, because trying to get as high as you can just brings up the "harmful" statements.

Why are people against marijuana still, in 2014?

I can see why people are against it. I don't think I'd say I'm against it but I know people who definitely are. My mother is against it because it causes addiction, but I think it'll only really cause addiction if you're not responsible about it. It can be dangerous for those who are addicted, not because of cancer or anything, but for their bank accounts, and obviously for legal reasons. I know people who've been fired, kicked out of school, even lost their spouse because of their addictions. It drains all/most of your money, and once some people are addicted, they won't accept help from their loved ones...

On the flip side, its legalisation would likely result in more support and education about cannabis and its potential addiction. People would be much more open to talking about it. It is less addictive than alcohol, at any rate.

Why are people against marijuana still, in 2014?

For me personally weed is only really bad because it does cost alot of money when smoking on the regular (spending aprox $250 per month), unless you grow yourself. Besides that unlike for example alcohol or other hard drugs (heroin etc.) it can't cause any physical addiction. However there is the chance of an psychological addiction - just like nicotine and caffeine.

Why are people against marijuana still, in 2014?

The irony is that there's tons of scientific evidence that proves its benefits. The only thing i'm against is the whole drug-underground. IE: Mexican drug cartels, it being sold on the streets and it then becomes competitive, but turns to violence in some cases. Legalize it and the illegal drug trade will cease to exist in relation to it.

The medical benefits of it are great, and to be honest there's no real reason not to legalize it. I don't smoke, but i'd much rather have people toking up and going about their day than sitting on their asses getting shit faced.
