I think this advice is dumb.

If we're specifically talking about the Runescape gold market, then its realistic to expect start up costs. Asking questions to prevent early losses due to stupid negligence is a prudent step to take. Hypothetically, what if I had no idea of which payment method to take? I wouldn't know the risks of chargebacks and other issues with Paypal as a payment medium.

Just because people in "normal work environments" ask questions, doesn't mean its exclusively useful in that environment. I get that you're trying to motivate people but I think you're too focused on rhetoric than useful advice.

 

Your point of view is appreciated and I understand fully. Take the time to read between the lines as you've misread what I wrote as a comparison between the work environment, and business lifestyles.

The point is to stress the importance of not going in to business with a workers mindset, as there is nobody to hold your hand and give you a simple ste-by-step method that will have little changes in practice for the long term.

I have highlighted/bold/underlined the main points here.

I understand you appreciate your guideance on paypal, but to counter your argument I'd say it would be common sense learned from trial and error regarding scams and chargeback fraud. Rather than asking questions and getting an answer from somebody who is also 'learning' is a poor use of time. Sure, asking some questions to learn the ropes is useful, but the majority of research should, and in my opinion, must, be self taught.

If a beginner entering the market only asks questions and does no individual research or marketing strategies, they will likely fail as they will just be copying what the other person (who they are asking the Qs) are doing. This brings nothing new to the table and they are unlikely to stand out from the crowd.

Again, thanks for taking the time to reply. These kind of discussions is what gets people thinking if reading this. I understand your point of view completely, but I do disagree in the contexts mentioned above, and highlighted below.

Asking questions is something we're all told to do. But its very bad advice in most cases. Sure its great to ask some questions to learn the ropes. But asking questions is what average people in the average working environment do. A job is something that doesn't change much. Your responsibilities are pretty much the same unless the company you work for implements some minor changes. If you are asking a billion questions to "play it safe" before taking action, I'm sorry but you should just go and work at mcdonalds and learn how to use the deep fat fryer safely.

If you're asking questions to build the perfect plan before taking action, then you have failed before you've even started. If you have the audacity to want to be an entrepreneur without any risk whatsoever, then you're not going to succeed. I'm not saying go and throw your life savings at something you do not understand, but you need to be willing to be patient and embrace trial and error with open arms. Document the results from trial and error and then move forward.

Good question and although I have generalised them, they are mostly two kinds of people:

A) Those who suck up to you on skype and ask 23823823 advice questions whilst lying about their experience or how much they make.

B) Those who have e-dick contests on forums and claim to make 'x' amount of money, but don't (this is basically explained in more detail throughout the rant of OP).

I'm just a no bullshit kind of guy and I understand my OP comes across to some people as cynical and harsh, but I don't see the point in sugarcoating this kind of topic.

This truly is some dumb advice you've given here.

It's 2018, don't take unnecessary risks with your money unless you have enough money to consider it already spent. You claim you make 3-4 figures a month? I can guarantee I have more moeny than you, and it was definitely not made by taking risks and not asking questions.

Ask questions, inform yourself as much as you possibly can, and even then you shouldn't take "risks". Smart investments > "risks without questions".
