Thoughts on what the Christian bible says?

I'm not Christian, but I'd say I believe in a higher power I guess. I do partially believe the Christian bible can help explain some of history, although I believe it's extremely over-exaggerated.

I believe Mary may have slept around but convinced her husband otherwise,

Jesus Christ did exist, the debate is whether he was a messiah, I think he may have just had a belief or was crazy, i'm leaning towards he just had a belief and spread it rather than being crazy

I believe Noah's ark was more like a city got flooded and Noah saved his/some farm animals on a boat rather than all in the world

I believe Jesus may have dabbled in some medical procedures, but not that he had any magic healing.

I believe the whole walk on water was more of Jesus just walking in shallow water or using some sort of trick (a dock under the water)

What are some of your guys's thoughts, also feel free to piece apart the Torah and Quran. I think all scriptures have some truth hidden behind them. What do you think about my thoughts? Any other opinions relating to the topic? Please no hate towards specific religions, this is a serious thread.

Thoughts on what the Christian bible says?

I'm of the opinion that the Bible (and probably all sacred texts) are like anthropological documents - people describing their world and its life.

If they seem supernatural, that, I think, has to do with the way today we relate to language, as opposed to how language was experienced two thousand years ago.

I think its possible the study of language itself (from the days of the Grammarians, Neo-Platonists, the Stoics, Scholastics, all the way down to the emergence of modern philology and linguistics) did much to change the nature of biblical interpretation.

And then there's the role of empires and (inter)national commerce and politics...

A book of inaccurate historical accounts and old wives tales, much similar to every other religious book that indoctrinates billions of people.

The book gives inaccurate and impossible depictions of world-altering events that we have no evidence for. I've always held the belief that the bible is nothing but a record of standards to live by.

These are all interesting thoughts. Why do you believe those beliefs?

Thoughts on what the Christian bible says?

I believe much of it is based on real stories and some of it is metaphorical. I'm a bigger fan of the new testament but I'm still not sure exactly what I believe.

That's an extremely old, extremely debunked video. How do you think that it's relevant?

Thoughts on what the Christian bible says?

I have watched it, over a decade ago.

I repeat my question. Please don't rely on a video to do the work for you. If you believe in something enough, you should be capable of arguing the point yourself.

Thoughts on what the Christian bible says?

I think they make a really valid point. Back in time they had nothing but the stars. Christianity and many religions such as old greek tradition are based on weather, and the stars in the sky. Its a story nothing more nothing less

I suggest that you take a look at this: The Zeitgeist Movie

Lots of the claims made by Zeitgeist are untrue. If the makers can make a video that's backed by actual fact, I'll listen to them. Until then, pass.

Right. So you believe the bible and old book two housand years old. That people walk of water make a sea split. Turn water into wine. That is factual?

No, and I've never said that I did believe those things. Don't try to put words into my mouth.
