    My Breathing is F'd up.

Since like 4 days ago I've been having trouble breathing and I'm always yawning to get a full breath.

After I yawn I feel relieved but then I have trouble breathing again. I cough every now and then and I have some tightness in my chest.

Anyways, my parents and I have a family friend who's a doctor (not my actual doctor) and she said it's probably a mild case of asthma... I haven't had asthma since I was in 4th grade or so. And that was in the spring for like a week.

I don't know the trigger, probably pollen since I'm quite allergic, but it's almost summer and it doesn't make sense to me for it to start now.

So the doctor gave me an over the counter prescription of ProAir or something...it's an inhaler and she said 2 puffs at a time. 4 puffs a day max.

The thing is, it doesn't WORK. Which leads me to believe that it may not be asthma? I saw her again yesterday, and she said that she would give me this steroid inhaler thing that should get rid of it.

It's a steroid inhaler, and I don't know much about it, but I'm 15 and supposedly it stunts your growth? I don't exactly want to take it since I'm only a little above average and I think I have a few more years to grow.

Also, I don't even know if it's even asthma, she told me she would get me an appointment with a pulmonary doctor to see if I really do have asthma but I won't see her again for a few days and then I will probably have to wait another few days before it's the appointment.

Today is Memorial Day, my parents didn't pick up the inhaler yesterday so I have to wait till tomorrow to get it.

I don't think anyone here is a doctor, but I think Sythe > Yahoo Answers lmao. And I don't exactly want to sign up on a medical forum -.-

So I have a few choices:

1)Go to ER, find out what's wrong
2)Wait till tomorrow and try the inhaler
3)Get the inhaler but don't use it, go to pulmonary doctor, we'll see from there.
4)Wait it out and see if it goes away like it did in 4th grade.

It doesn't exactly bother me but I get a few hours less of sleep and in school I'm yawning like every 2 min and I take REALLY deep gasps/breaths.

Seriously m8, get yourself to the ER. It could possibly be asthma or it could be something more serious which needs to get checked out ASAP.

With the steroid inhaler, "STEROIDS" stunt your growth, the steroid inhaler has minimal amounts of Steroids in them, that it shouldn't effect you that way. I used to use one as a child, and ive ended up 6ft 2inches so it doesn't seem that bad, although some people just refuse to take it on principle.

But like i said before get yourself to ER and get checked out. If it turns out to be asthma then at least you know rather than waiting and possibly it turning out to be something more serious.

What you describe sounds exactly like asthma, why do I say that? I have mild asthma and I get the EXACT same thing as what you have just said, the crappy inhaler they give sometimes doesn't work for me either, I've had it since I was 15 as well (probably just pure coincidence) and I am now nearly 19 and I have been to the doctors about it many, many times but they seem to just say the same thing over and over, it's rather frustrating.

P.S. Is the inhaler they give you light blue and you don't need to press the button you just suck on it?
It's supposed to be around 30 minutes later until it takes effect (and it sometimes doesn't work).

    It's not asthma; It's bronchitis.

Those inhalers are designed to determine whether one has asthma or not. If they don't work and you use it consistently and properly then it's not asthma.

It's bronchitis, what sort I'm not sure; consult your doctor and ask them about bronchitis specifically, as you exhibit all the signs.

okay update, I didn't end up going to the ER, I got the steroid inhaler though and it seems to have worked.

It wears off so I take it twice a day (like my doctor prescribed)...I don't know when I'm seeing a pulmonary specialist but I will keep in mind that it may be Bronchitis since it seems to have similar symptoms as asthma.

    Thanks.
