Im black and I find it funny how alot of you used your own personal experiences as "fact" (when I was in 3rd grade I went to a black school and got in 5 fights so all black people must be angry animals who like to fight). Theres nothing different between any race/culture except for environment. A black child can succeed just as well as a white child if brought up in a positive learning environment.

Also, please dont assume every black person is bloodthirsty and out looking to kill "whitey" because of slavery hundreds of years ago. Most black people are no different from you and aren't looking to pull the race card out at any oppourtunity.

As for the whole white person using n word thingy.

There are many different cultures where, if an outsider was to use one of their words, they would take offense. I personally don't care if a white person says nigga, because 99% of the time theyre just joking around and we get a good laugh at it. That does NOT mean it is ok to go around calling random strangers nigga's, because you hear other black people using it. The reason white people shouldnt use the word nigga is because in the past when white people used the word it was meant to be hurtful.

Please everybody keep an open mind. We're all one race (humans) and the world would truly be a better place if we all realized there really isnt any differences between all human beings outside of what we look like.

You have taken my comments out of context and appear to have misconstrued my points. Enslaving another human being is a reprehensible and immoral act - I have not in any way attempted to suggest that slavery, and subsequential discriminatory measures, were acceptable. I am simply remarking that today's white populace cannot still be held responsible for acts perpetrated by their ancestors. We do not hold modern young Germans responsible for the atrocities of the Holocaust, and so, similarly, it would be without basis to blame today's Americans for the legacy of slavery.

    Sigh,
Obviously racism isn't eradicated, it never will be because thats how humans are, race is just a simple way to hate someone because its the easiest defining feature, if it's not race it's something else.

My personal opinion is slavery was a good thing and white people are definitely not to blame for slavery, anyone who says so is ridiculous.

Slavery (in the USA) provided much free labor and allowed the south to grow while not quite matching with the north it did keep them running at a fairly good rate.
It brought the Africans from war and turmoil of Africa and while they weren't treated all that great (differing severities) you have to take into consideration that they were considered "property" at the time, they weren't viewed as human beings. Now if you want to be angry at someone be angry at the Africans who sold there own people, they viewed these people are human beings so then they are at fault, the buyers were simply acting as if they were buying a television from a catalog.

Now on the idea that whites are to blame, then I must ask why? Why would you leave blame on an entire section of the human populace simply because of a few hundred year debacle? (In your eyes not my own)
Thats like me being angry at every black person for shootings, carjackings, stolen tv's,robberies, rapes,B&E's,stolen nikes, drug deals, etc etc etc etc. because a small section of them do it.

Not only white people have committed slavery, I can probably guarantee that every race is guilty of it. So why pin it on one race because the former slaves great great great grandchildren (who whine and bitch for no good reason mind you) think that racism is why the world is hard for them?

Ok, so only white people have used slaves? Early civilizations such as the Egyptians (AFRICA) used Jewish slaves (light skin tinted, primarily white but debatable). I'm 1/16th Jewish, so therefore black people owned us as slaves, where's my equality? No, people only look at one instance in history, because they think it can cover up their behavior.

I agree that whites probably helped blacks by bring them to America and Europe. If the whites didn't bring the slaves to the developed countries, then the American and European blacks would still be in Africa suffering under a black dictator.

it only bugs me when a black person tells me that whites put their people into slavery like were still doing it... that happened 100 years ago and im pretty sure americans wouldnt do it again if they had a chance. thats like still calling all germans nazis even though that happened a couple hundred years ago and only a few precent of the germans were nazis

White people are not to blame for slavery.

    wow, trinity

are you trying to say that it is ok to treat other people like objects and slave owners were nothing more than people who were "acting as if they were buying a television from a catalog."?

    jesus, that is reprehensible

a lot of white people chose not to participate in slavery. they can be considered ethical people.

as you seem to have ignored my previous post i will make my point again. If I rounded up my sister and sold her to you for the purposes of slavery for 10,000 , would we both not be to blame?
I would be to blame for being a greedy bastard while you would be to blame for both creating the need for slaves and actually holding people as slaves making them work for you.

sure slavery helped america thrive, that does not make it a good thing. america being the major power int he world has many many negative outcomes being seen across the world atm.

while africans may have been in a bad state in africa, it is ludicrous to claim that it was a good thing to round them up, and bring them to america to work as slaves for white colonizers.

not saying all white people are to blame for thte concept of slavery

i am saying that white people cannot simply act as if nothing happened and their ancestors did not do anything to a whole other race of people.

affirmative action and other programs like this are necessary in order to rebalance society and undo some effects of racism.

I do not like it when white people say tha tblack people should just get over it. you would not tell a jewish person to just get over the holocaust.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

Well when you consider their mindset to the whole situation then yes, it can be comparable to someone simply buying any other item. In essence they could be compared to dogs, they were alive and acknowledged as such
yet they were seen as just property.

Why? The ethics of the time were reflected by those who held slaves, it was unethical to be against it, this changed obviously.

I normally don't like to jump into conversations with others if I haven't read the entire thread.

Well depends on how that person who bought your sister viewed her when buying. If they viewed her as an obvious human being then yes you both would be at fault however if they don't see them as a human being and that mindset is supported by a healthy majority of others, then no they would not be at fault.

It does make it a good thing, the idea of whether slavery was right or not is opinionated thus giving it little factual standing. However the effects of it are strong, and before the revolts slavery was very profitable and useful. Making it good in that sense.

Economically it was a good thing.

We do acknowledge it, we teach it in schools and require knowledge of this event for students to graduate. So we realize nothing didn't happen.

Don't even get me started on affirmative action, the most racist piece of legislature ever and it's put off as "helpful" maybe during the 40's-60's but nowadays? It's pointless and more harm than good.

Actually yes I personally would, its a historical event. Unless they were directly affected by it (were apart of it or had an immediate family member involved) then they should get over it. Acknowledge it happened but don't use it as a crutch.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

So taking thousands of people away from their homes, ripping their families apart, and bringing them to America is justified because American is now a developed country? That is the worst justification for slavery ive ever heard.

Doesn't make it justified, but I do agree it helped America a lot. Its a simple fact, just because you don't see the whole picture you are still fixated that it was purely bad and brought no good.
