White people are not to blame for slavery.

The british are the ones to blame. The british enslaved the indians, irish and africans all in america, do your home work and you'll discover what I say is the truth. Your all slaves to society, in the end we're all slaves.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

Our generation has to take all the hate and anger from black people because of what their own ancestors had started.

I don't think you can pin this on one group of people. Slavery has been around since ancient times. To say that one group, whites in this case, is responsible for slavery as a whole is largely ignorant. If you're talking specifically about how African Americans were used as slaves during the colonial times up through the civil war, then I still feel like whites are not to blame. No group is. There were so many factors, including the slaves usually being sold by other blacks, that make it impossible to say it was white men and white men only. Besides, a VERY large number of white men fought for the abolishment of slavery, both in politics and in the Civil War itself.

It all goes back to the main point.. blaming one group for slavery is largely ignorant.

i read this, and i AGREE and DISAGREE at the same time.

proportionally, black people as most call them, have reasons to feel judged by other races. Some people literally look at us as if we are all bad people, like we have no sense, and we dont know how to act. but i do feel terribly when someone says something totally un-offensive, and one way or another, a black person takes it as an offense. like for instance, if you were watching a group of black people fighting or jumping someone, and one way or the other you somehow stop it, and say "you people should be ashamed of yourself" and they happen to all be african-americam. they take it as your saying that because they're black. but thats not what you meant at all, you meant it as they just all happend to be doing something wrong.
with the whole slavery thing, it goes both ways as well. african american familys teach their kids many lessons about the hardships of our ancestors, and how it affects us, and how some people look at us as if we dont deserve anything we have because of our color. So our parents make sure we're ontop of things, as if everything is a competetion, or a way to prove something wrong, when not a single time has anyone looked at us upon that way, they just assume because it happend to our ancestors, and maybe our parents in their childhood. thats exactly we're it goes from a PRO, to a CON.
Black people need to let go of the whole slavery thing, but still be aware that there is ALWAYS going to be racism about any human, and discrimination goes both ways, just how we discriminate about how white people all think of us as cotton pickers, or slaves. well everyone in the world isnt racist, but there's a discriminitve point of view from every race one way or the other, and it isnt all about black people. We compline about racism, yet what about Jews? eventhough it was a Religion, what did they do to deserve any of that? they were murdered from left to right, just if they we're seen. taken away from their familys, just like us. but the difference was, they all learned to move right on past it. i guess the only thing that makes black people iffy about that, is that they're white. and they can learn to forgive, because they all share the same thing, and that's their skin color, and we're easily depicted of our skin color. you can't tell a jew everytime you see one, but because of black peoples skin color, you always know one when you see one.

Agreed, but the fact is that we live in America where black people were brought by white people and sold here which makes us guilty.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

i would argue otherwise. white people kill eachother off in just as great numbers, these deaths are just not paraded around the media.

why? because people need to rationalize their beliefs somehow.

black people are also more likely to be convicted of any crime than white people.

people are more likely to confuse a sell phone for a fun if it is held by a black man

Wow, this topic is still around? Awesome.

Black people outnumber whites in jails 2 to 1 or 3 to 1. The majority of the people in prison are Hispanic/Latino or Black.

There could be a rational explanation for why so many blacks get put in jail (Bad neighborhoods, etc), but the fact of the matter is that stereotypes exist for a reason.
A lot of Hispanics actually do work as landscapers and/or came here illegally.
A lot of black people do commit crimes.
A lot of Indian people do own 7-Elevens/Convenience Stores.
A lot of white people do suck at basketball, and can't jump/dance to save their lives.

Do stereotypes apply to every single person on the planet? No, but they exist and continue to exist because it's more than one isolated incident. They exist because some people continue to enforce them (by making them true), and give every one else a bad image.

like i said, they get convicted in much larger numbers than white people. i would go and dig up some experiments but i feel it is a waste of time to prove this very basic point to you.

i have given plenty of reasons in my previous post as to why they are convicted and tried in larger numbers

it is one thing to say that a lot of a certain group participates in activity A
it is another thing to say that the majority of this group participates in activity A, or that more white than black people participate in activity A

    get the difference?

I don't think this really matters, people who think that way will always think that way because they are ignorant I can't see a good point to this thread.

There's no point in debating this, if that's how you feel then.

You truly believe that black people end up in jail solely because they're black? So you wouldn't mind spending a month in prison with these friendly, wrongly accused African Americans, correct?

when did i say that they end up in jail solely because they are black
jesus, way to take something to mean something else.

a black man has a much larger chance of being convicted of the same crime with the same amount of evidence against him

also, what does spending time with them have to do with their innocence or lack there of?
i suspect you have some bias towards black people that is clouding your judgment.

I agree; it's about time the race card was laid to rest. Black Americans have significantly higher crime rates, poverty rates, and single parents than non-blacks: http://www.census.gov/prod/2005pubs/censr-25.pdf

The notion that today's white population ought to be held responsible for slavery historically is, in itself, an attempt to enslave a people; an attempt to force responsibility for an act now confined to the footnotes of history on a modern populace.

yea, it is ok for one race of people to bring another into their country to work for them as slaves, then after slavery is made illegal, enact many racially prejudiced laws an also segregate the black community into ghettos, making many of them poor while forcing others into a criminal lifestyle.

it is ok to blame them for being this way after wards too simply because we are tired of hearing the "race card" and they should have overcome the effects of racism because we all know that racism is eradicated

    /sarcasm

I'm glad that was sarcasm, because whites didn't really force blacks into slavery, in fact more blacks forced other blacks into it and sent them over to america on slave ships.

White people are not to blame for slavery.

white people put the demand for them and profited from the slave labor

if someone, right now, paid me 10,000 dollars to take one of my own family and sell them to that person for the purposes of slavery and i did it, would we both not be to blame??

sure, the black people who rounded up their own kind to sell were bad, but the white colonizers were the ones who created the demand and they were the ones who actually held them as slaves for an extended period of time
