i work with a guy who's a pathological liar..he lies about everything from his past...to his relationships..to his salary...i mean everything..he makes shit up..on the spot...he even lies about stuff that is in bad taste...and he can do it on the fly...how ever impressive..it's actually really creepy..

i can tell when someone is lying..it's a gift..im usually right..it's a feeling i get..but i digress..

i don't call him out on his bullshit...because it's not worth the effort..but for a grown man to lie so much?..it's got to be a mental problem..like why?...he's told so many lies that he trips over himself...it's sad..

do you know someone like that?..have you ever called them out?...

do you lie a lot?....why?

everyone does..they have to sometimes to make someone feel better...etc

i don't lie too much...im an honest person to the point of being rude..

Never really asked why they do it, but theres few retards I know which every word is a lie, If I ever caught anyone lieing to me I want to punch in their face.

 

I can usually tell when someone is lying too; but like you, I don't say.
On the whole - I'm honest. When I lie, I feel so guilty I end up admitting to the truth nearly straight afterwards.

I usually just go with there BS and I'm like "Wow, congratulations!". Pretty funny.

 

They are very insecure about reality-where they are as of today. They wake up only to be lying to themselves.

 

all pathological liars should be come US politicians because it seems to be a successful trend in that field

 

I had a friend thats a pathological liar for example one day he goes to my house and picks me up. He tells me "Man im so high i took 4 sleeping pills" we go to the park one of my other friends walks up to us and sits down next to us then my friend says "Man i took 4 x pills"
next time a chick he used to like walks up to us and starts flirting with me then my friend walks up her and says "I took 20 x pills and im fucked up" and since hes in a gang he thinks hes a bad ass and he makes up adventures of having beer runs, kickbacks smoking weed and doing coke, running from the cops, hitting cops, and doing drugs. yes hes a pathological liar but not because he has a mental problem he lies because he wants to be cool.

I lie constantly. I don't know why. I lie about things that don't really matter whether I tell the truth or not and on the smallest things. Sometimes I correct myself after blurting out a lie, but usually I just let it sit as is

 

Everyone lies to an extent. I used to have a serious issue with compulsive lying. Even the smallest little things I would lie about.. just to make conversation and such. Then there were things that could potentially get me in trouble that I would lie about. I mean it was pretty sad, I would go over it in my head so many times it almost seemed real. Not even joking I probably could have fooled a polygraph.

I had some eye opening experiences in the last few years though that showed me I really didn't have to lie about trivial shit just to seem cool or interesting. The problem isn't necessarily gone, but I haven't had nearly as big of a struggle with it like I had in my early teens/high school days. I still am a pretty damn good liar though, when I want to be.. it's sort of scary in a way. I feel like a sociopath.

 

I know a few people. It used to be a big problem for me, it's something I grew out of around 4 years ago.

I did it for creating conversation and it became a bad habit, it took some tough life lessons to stop doing it.

Yes my cousin used to lie to me quite a bit and i could never really understand why he did it pretty much the same senario your facing..exact to be honest

Yes, I do lie but only when I can benefit from the lie

Why do people lie? I think its either a) for attention b) to benefit

 

it is a defense mechanism, in a lot of cases.

ie. you constantly need to hide your real motivations so you automatically create an appearance for everyone else.

I'm not a liar as such, in cases where things matter I will always keep my word, eg. When someone entrusts me with a secret, I'll never tell anyone else, simply because It's not in my nature to deceive that way.

Having said that, in situations where telling the truth is going to harm you, I lie very well, and think remarkably quickly on my feet.
As for calling liars out, I don't call liars out by saying hey your lying, I'll only ever call someone out if they're really annoying, and when I do I just phrase it in a way to make them stupid.

Lying IMO is very important to society, without it people would hate each other for the stupidest of things.

 

Personally I don't really lie much, but I can't live w/o some bullshit xD

I know someone irl whos 3/4 words = total bullshit, really easy to bust lies, when he starts his hardcore bs he usually fails tons. once I was arguing with him about scooters, I said that my mate's scooter needs 6l/100km gas and he called him an idiot and said you gotta drive really fast to save gas(his face looked funny cos he got angry lool). After that he walked away and I was like 'I only just started to listen your bullshit'.

 

I have few friends that just make up stories non stop all the time. That is the only thing I know that they lie about though.
