Is Iban Staff lost on death?

I'm in the process of making a low level Iban Blast pure, but if the staff is lost on death that means I would have to make the whooole UGP trip again which would quickly become a very tedious thing to do. Can I pick it back up after death?

 

If the staff is upgraded, then you'll be able to walk back and retrieve it on death with all of the charges still intact. I know that there was a poll question regarding untradeables in the wildy that just passed though, not sure when those changes are set to take place and/or if the iban staff is under the list of affected items.
