No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

Hey everyone, I went to turn my laptop on and I got this problem this morning. Ill type what it says word for word.

    "Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083)
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.1(12/15/09)

    Check cable connection!
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

I'm not sure what to do, I tried to look it up online and people say to look at BIOS and I did, but idk what I'm really looking for so I wasn't sure..

Also, if I need a new harddrive how much would it cost for a good one? I might just get a new laptop/pc.

    Can someone help, please? :)

    thanks!

I am fairly certain the problem lies with a bad harddrive. A new one will cost about $70 or so, depending on what country you live in.

Does it actually get to the windows screen (if your running windows) at all? It seems that the ethernet controller is giving the issue, but if you can't get to the logon screen, i doubt there is an easy way to install it. If you don't want to get a new hard drive, try re-installing your OS, although as the Justinkiller said, it is more than likely your hard drive.

It doesn't mean your hard drive is corrupted or broken. The windows installation might simply be corrupted.

Go to your BIOS to start with and check if it recognises your hard disk.
If it does, make sure your primary boot device is your hard drive and that it's not trying to boot from CD or whatever.

If it's set correctly and you keep getting the same message, it's probably best to take out the hard drive, connect it to another computer and back up the data.

Then reformat and reinstall windows and put data back on it.

Possible hard drive failur, go look in the bios and search for any readable drives, if yes, then try to reinstall your OS, if not, check the sata cable is connected properly and if it is, than get a new hard drive, if there is any important data that you just can't let go off, then get a professional to restore the data for you.
