    Looking for a cell phone.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about cell phones. For my birthday my parents bought me one but right now they are using it for their own emergencies. I don't really like it because it's really basic.. no unlimited texting and can't take pictures.

I'm looking for a phone/plan where I can take nice pictures and have unlimited texting. I don't want to have to buy a lot of minutes though because I barely use the cell phone to actually talk.. mostly text. I don't mind paying a bit for the phone itself, but i'd rather not have to pay much monthly for the plan. Btw I live in Canada.

    Any suggestions?

    Looking for a cell phone.

You could go for an android phone such as a Samsung galaxy S or a HTC Desire. They are both excellent phones.

    Looking for a cell phone.

If you're in high school or university there are many student plans available that have unlimited text and social networking (usually). Telus and Rogers have a $40 plan and Wind has a $45 unlimited talk and text plan (though their reception and phone choices aren't too great).

    Looking for a cell phone.

Android phones are the way to go...

Android is software. It's not a specific type of phone or a provider (such as At&T). It can be loaded onto any phone with the bootloader unlocked with the correct drivers. It's developed by Google.

It's open source (anyone can download it and change the code, make their own versions, etc.)

    http://www.taranfx.com/iphone-4-vs-android-2-2

Google updates Android frequently, and the update is available to all phones running stock android (if you're running Motoblur or Sense UI, wait for Motorola or HTC to provide the update, or you can just root it and put stock on it)

Android does tons of more stuff out of the box than a Jailbroken iPhone.

I bought an iPhone 4. I hated it. It's ridiculous how Apple wants to control everything that is on your phone. I sold it, and bought a Nexus one (Android), and I swear I will never go back to Apple.

When it comes to brands, HTC is the best. Samsung isn't too far behind. Stay away from Nokia and Motorola.
Palm is decent, only if it's running WebOS. Palm OS is terrible.
Blackberry (RIM) is honestly technically inferior to almost everything else out there. I have no idea how they get so many sales.
Don't touch anything that says Windows Mobile. It's terrible. I wil give my opinion on Windows Phone 7 when it arrives.
Sony Ericsson is also terrible, they usually just run stock OS's that the cell providers provide.

Some of those brands (Sony Ericsson, Motorola) have android devices. They are better than other phones that they produce, but if you can help it, keep to HTC or Samsung.

Get a tmobile, you can get a really cheap service with no contract, and they have some good phones, and my sister was able to put her iphone on the plan and its soo much cheaper.

    Looking for a cell phone.

If you are looking for the best phone possible i would recommend the HTC Desire from telus, you can get the student plan which includes plently of minutes, unlimited texting, web browsing, social networking for about 40$ a month. But this is a rather top of the line phone so to speak, with many features. If you are looking for a simpler option i would recommend the LG keybo 2 from telus prepaid which is 90$, it is a great phone. For a plan i would buy a 100$ card and activate it to your account, then set it up so that 15$ a month is taken out for unlimited texting a month. If you don't talk much this should last you 5/6 months which isn't bad.
