    Morals online

What changes people's Moral's/Values online Vs. In person?
I have known several friends and A LOT of gamers in general, where there is a massive change in their value system when they log into a game.
For example, these specific friends of mine would never rob/steal from someone in real life and are actually rather caring people, however; the moment the jump into the game, or the "other world" they now are open to scamming & luring others.
Now, of course the argument can be:
    "Well, it's just a game."
But these friends also buy RS GP, so there is real world value attached to what they are scamming and luring.
What do you believe the change is for people's value in Life VS The game world?

They don't have to look someone in the eye, see the pain they're causing them, or ever hear from the online victim again. I'd guess most of them are bullied in the real world and are unable to stand up for themselves and retaliate, so they come home and do the same kinda thing to other people online without fear of consequence.

In other word I think they're pussies

    Good observation.

I personally would never troll anyone I know IRL. I'm actually a pretty caring guy just like you stated above, but for some reason I just think it's funny fucking with people online and seeing how they react. For example, I could see how it was immature of me to do what I did to you seeing as it wasn't technically online, but we still met online so it's sort of the same thing. I was just seeing how you would react. In reality I really didn't hack or scam you though like you think I did, and that is truly the 110% truth.

I actually plan on not trolling people anymore because after thinking it over, what's the point? It's immature as fuck for 1 and for 2 trying to get a negative reaction out of someone is just a dick move. At the same time though it does show you how much someone can take before reacting in a negative way.

I don't think people weigh the outcome of their actions the same online than they do irl. The Internet is seen as a screen to many, where they are safe to act and do as they please without much repercussion. Just how people might scam online but never try to steal from a store irl; it's easy to be a dick or steal online and even easier to not get in trouble.

The situation can also be the reverse of theirs. There are instances of people who "irl" (this acronym alone has interesting implications concerning the differences we perceive between virtual and material places) are very cloistered, while online they are highly sociable and even, in some cases, extraordinarily empathetic.

Have you ever asked your friends why they do it?

Honestly I think the main problem here is the disconnect that people feel when they gain anonymity. In real life they're scared of real-life consequences; online they feel safe because their identity is concealed.

Eye contact makes a really big difference. Since the chances of negative consequences are less people are willing to do things they normally wouldn't do, which is really sad.

Lots of responses, I agree with you all.
I think a major factor is the "disconnect"
    Between human to human
    And character to character.
    Great insight from you all.

For the most part I'm the same online as I am in person and I stick to the same morals as best I can. When I was younger that definitely wasn't the case and I was one of the first to get on the trolling bandwagon under anonymity but nowadays I really don't care. I simply want to enjoy my free time with people I enjoy the company of and putting up a facade makes that mode difficult.

To an extent this fits me too though since I'm a very introverted person and socialising is not something I'm particularly fond of with most people. If I'm physically sitting down for drinks at a pub, the vast majority of people would like to engage in some kind of continuous conversation, whereas online pauses in conversation are acceptable and it can flow at the pace I'm comfortable with. Sure I can hold a conversation in person the same as anyone else but I often don't enjoy it.

Too bad the majority of the population don't. If it were possible to institute a real life karma system that would be wonderful. Too bad it's never going to happen.

Karma is technically always there thanks to the civilized society that we live in (jail etc).

Of course... I'm not saying it's a perfect system, but it is very well functioning for the most part.
