When should you use violence?

Well, when do you believe you should use violence?

When replying to the thread, please state why.

 

To defend yourself, or defend others.

To defend yourself; self-defense. If someones attacking you, I don't know many people that would not fight back at all. Self-defense is in your best interest, be it running away or otherwise, you are still defending yourself and hence using violence as a means is acceptable.

To defend others. If someone is being mugged infront of you, and the person being mugged pleas for your help, violence is acceptable. Though it may not be in your best interest to help, perhaps there's a gang of muggers, it doesn't negate the fact that the use of violence is acceptable. Someone has had force initiated on them, and they are begging for you to help, violence is acceptable as not only would the person being mugged act on self-defense, you are defending the rights of that person.

These two would be the only accepted forms of violence. There aren't m/any moral pitfalls when extrapolating these two principles, they cover virtually everything.

 

Self-defense. This includes, imo, if (for example), you're a homeless person without food or money, and you're forced to use violence to feed yourself if there is no alternative.

 

That's not self-defense. No-one is initiating the attack against you, you're initiating it. If anything, THEY'RE using self-defense.

But, I digress... I agree it's only acceptable if you're being attacked first.

 

when ur defending urself or others for example if some throws a punch at u hit em back and if someone flogs ur mate and his down on the ground and they decide to start kicking him then its ok to jump in and flog that sucker..

 

Violence should only be used if you feel threatened that someone WILL hurt you/IS hurting you (Self-defense).

I don't see many reasons to initiate violence in a morally ethic way.

 

what about if some1 is talking shit about u to ur face? u dont feel the erge to drop em on there ass?

I think the need to defend yourself from starvation counts.

If you submit to the erge to drop em on there ass, then they can sue you and shit. Also, urges are something that people can overcome.

Violence is acceptable in self defense, meaning, by definition, that someone else came at you FIRST, and you retaliate to that person, and that person only. If you are starving, then to act in self defense means beating the shit out of starvation itself, not some random guy in the street.

 

Then I believe violence is perfectly okay in acts of self-defense AND in any form of protection of your own being.

 

I've been in a few fights in my life, but there aren't any I regret or didn't deem necessary.

I see it this way, if a person threatens me physically OR mentally (to an extent I can't just shrug off), I'll defend myself as I see fit.

Same goes for people I care for. Mess with them and I'll gladly defend them. I expect them to do the same for me. And I'd expect any decent person to do the same for their loved ones.

It's a bit different if I witness a complete stranger being targeted by someone. I don't know the situation, so I really have no idea what I'd be fighting for. If they're obviously going to come to extreme harm, or it's obvious they weren't the aggressor, then I'd gladly jump in.

 

Its okay to use violence when the other person does not agree with you.
For example one day a guy at school said he liked blue more than black (I love black) and i punched him in the face at that point i came to the conclusion that if someone doesn't agree with me he deserves to be hurt.

Huh? Psychomaniac alert. If you go around hurting everybody who likes french fries because you don't, then you don't belong on this earth. More correctly, you belong in one of those rooms that are fluffy all around so you don't hurt anybody when you finally get schizophrenia.

 

DUDE are you being serious, no one deserves to be hurt, well that's for me, I think the only RARE case in which you MIGHT be allowed to use "VIOLENCE" is for self-defense and that if your life is really in danger and if you have used all the other ways for solving a problem, like the dialogue.
