This thread is just to ask do you guys still use physical money, like notes and coins. Or do you only really use your card to pay for items that you buy or other electronic items, I still use cash for the things I buy. This is because I find it easier to budget for things and I know how much I am spending, the only time I use my card is to buy things from the internet like clothes and other things or to use it in ATM machines to draw out cash. What do you guys use?

I use cash on everything basically, assuming it isn't a very big purchase. Grocery shopping, new shoes, eating out etc. When I buy something bigger like a laptop I will use debit though.

I only ever use my debit card online, I find that I buy too much stuff when I use it, I prefer cash.

I rarely take cash on hand these days as I prefer using debit cards. It's convenient and you don't have to worry about losing physical cash. Unlike others, it works for me well because I am a wise spender.

Cash almost always. It's best for me and it helps the businesses too by not forcing them to pay the merchant fees that the card companies charge them.

Some places also give a discount for paying in cash :D

Seriously? I'm surprised literally every single response here has been "cash", especially considering several financially savvy people have responded.

If you use cash for things, you're literally pissing away extra money you could have (unless you're at a place that charges more for paying with a card, such as some gas stations). Not only are credit/debit cards easier to use (and just as easy, if not easier, to keep track of if you're responsible), but you can earn money/free stuff by using the right credit cards.

Rewards credit cards are amazing. You're going to be spending the money anyways, why not get some money back anyways? You don't even need good credit. Capital One has the Journey card, which is a student rewards card that gives 1% cash back on everything you buy, and then an additional 25% if you pay your bill on time. Since you should be paying your balance in full every month (Especially considering it's a student card, so it has a pretty brutal APR), that's an automatic 1.25% cash back on everything. Bank of America has a decent 1/2/3% (1% on everything, 2% on groceries, 3% on gas) card, but you need better credit for that. The Discover More card comes in a student and normal variety, and offers 1% on everything, and 5% on certain categories that change (This month it's restaurants, next month it's gas). You have to fill up your car with gas anyways, don't you? Use the Discover More card when you do. You pay $50 to fill up your car, and end up getting $2.50 just for using your card. Better yet, if you exchange your reward for gift cards, you can get an even better value. For example, $45 worth of rewards gets you a $50 Target card.

Yes, credit cards are evil if you don't know how to use them responsibly. Yes, some places might charge you more to use a card (Because of merchant fees), but the majority of places nowadays won't. There's nothing to lose if you get a card with no annual fee and pay your balance off in full. You pay no fees, no interest, and you get paid to use your card.

Not to mention, you pretty much need to get a credit card or two in order to help build your credit. Why not get a card that will actually be useful?

I mainly use credit cards and my debit card when I purchase stuff. It's much easier than carrying alot of cash at the time. I still have extra cash around just when a purchase is only a few dollars etc. Actually had a credit card since 16 and now have a $5000 balance on two. :) It's really helpful and useful but don't get carried away!

I use my debit card 95% of the time, only time I use cash is when i'm buying some weed(if only I could use debit though), I save more when using my debit cause if I have cash I want to spend it, lol but for the most part I use debit for gas/food/cigs/cloths -which is pretty much all I buy lmao.

I just use my bank card nearly always, rarely cash.

I don't even own a credit card, props to me <3
Though here it's not normal for everyone to have a credit card like in the USA I guess.
