    Call of Duty general advice/guide

    Hello. I am Konner.

I've wanted to write this guide for a while now. Every time I have though, I've had Sythe.org give up on me and never post it. I believe I qualify to write this, I've made playoffs a few times for CoD4 and I've obviously played PCL. I quit GB and PCL entirely after MW2 came out.

    Settings

Button and stick layout, as well as sensitivity, play a major role in how you act.

For button layout, I recommend Default if you are a player that likes to move (run and gun), or you are the objective player (plant bombs, run/cap flags). If you are running around the map, constantly moving, stopping to dropshot is going to cut your momentum in half. Plus, you will often run into CQB environments where you may have to knife. Good thing your stick is the knife action. This also allows you to do the Moho jump much easier. I'll go over techniques later.

If you are a player that likes to sit back and pick players off from a distance (slayer or support), I recommend Tactical. Why? If you are sitting back killing the enemy, you won't have to knife unless you they sneak up on you. Being able to dropshot and crouch/prone easily is important. Your job is to stay alive and kill, kill, kill.

For stick layout, this is truly a matter of player preference. You will have to feel this one out yourself. I know many players who use inverted aiming settings, southpaw, etc... It's all up to you on this one.

Sensitivity; probably the most important aspect of your settings. As a personal notice, I never recommend anything over 7 if you run and gun. I recommend nothing over 5 if you support. This is something you really might ask "why" to...

Simply put, if you are a slayer/support, it's a fact that a lower sensitivity helps with aiming over range, especially with burst-firing guns, which are your best slaying weapons. If you are a run and gun player, being able to turn and weave through players and areas fast is crucial to your playstyle itself. Plus you can turn on people awesomely.

    Equipment

A good headset is crucial to Call of Duty nowadays!

I use a pair of Astro A40s myself. To be frank, it's the best headset on the market.

Other good headsets are made by TRITTON Technologies. I think they come in second.

Turtle Beach also makes okay headsets. I'd recommend the X11s if it's your first headset ever, but nothing else.

I also know of FPS Freeks which are known to hone your aiming and make it more precise. I don't use them myself, but it's a general consensus that they're awesome!

    Class Creation

A good class is an important asset. Curious about weapon stats and why I choose the guns I recommend? Click me!

    Run and gun

The best perk layout for running and gunning:
    -Marathon Pro
-Lightweight (Stopping Power can also be used, but you sacrifice mobility)
    -Ninja Pro

    Killstreaks:
UAV; you will want to be able to see where the enemy is.
Counter-UAV; they will not be able to see you coming, this is important.
Harrier Airstrike; Insteading of using a predator missle, use Harriers. You do not have to slow down as much, and it stays in the air. Good for clearing an area then passing through it.

There are only two SMGs I will recommend. The UMP45 and MP5k. The P90 is also a viable weapon, but it has a slow TTK.

I advise using the UMP45 because with Lightweight because it will kill in three bullets at any range. Yes, any range. It's probably the best SMG for everything.

I also advise using the MP5k if you can control recoil. This gun absolutely dominates up until past mid-range, then it falls apart. It's better if you find yourself closer to the enemy more often.

    Support/Slayer

The best perk layout for supporting and/or slaying:
Sleight of Hand Pro (Use Marathon for offense on Demolition, Sabotage, CTF if desired)
    Stopping Power
    Ninja Pro

    Killstreaks:
UAV; this will let you know where they are. Crucial!
Care Package; everything you can get is useful and will help you slay.
Sentry Gun; can monitor its own area, helps block chokepoints, or can watch your back.

I recommend three assault rifles for this role or style of play.
    The FAMAS/M16A4, ACR, and TAR-21.

The FAMAS/M16A4 are your best bets. They have a good TTK, low recoil, high accuracy and power, but suck at CQB.

The ACR has almost no recoil, high accuracy, decent power, and can do fine in CQB. A fully automatic, less-powerful FAMAS/M16A4 is a good way to describe the ACR.

The TAR-21 has a lot of recoil, but has insane power, boasts the fastest TTK in-game, and fantastic CQB.

    Techniques

These are amazing to know and utilize...

The "Dropshot": Go prone in a gunfight to avoid bullets, cause your foe to have to re-aim, this still works on a majority of players.

The "Halo Jump": Jump to the side, often unexpected. A good technique.

The "Strafe Jump": Can be used to turn corners if someone is around it. Hardly used outside of glitching/map exploration.

The "Moho Jump": A tough technique, but this makes flag capping a breeze. Covers ground extremely fast, lets you cap flags even if you're being shot.

    Putting it all together

I recommend playing Demolition or Search and Destroy to rank up fast.

If you can plant and defuse bombs in either, you get a decent amount of points, especially in S&D. If you push them back far enough in Demo, then I recommend you spawn kill them for free points. Just don't push too far up.

Check your corners. Check your ammo. Shoot things.

Instead of focusing around competitive gameplay, it might be worth explaining how to get quicker levels, what kind of killstreaks are best effective in diffferent playlists and tips, bombsite locations, Pre-fires and Spawn trapping, Etc.
I never see a proper indepth guide to CoD..

I hardly ever touch MW2 because it's shit. I don't even play pubs anymore, so I'm just used to thinking "this is the game".

This is hardly even competitive. I left out all of the things you wanted because I didn't want to overwhelm people. Explaining spawn traps in text is tough as hell, bombsite locations are obvious, prefires are worthless. I will add things about kill-streaks though and how to level up fast.
