    What's the point in trying?

To enjoy life. Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but there are some really, really good parts too.

Just because no-one's found a way to "win" doesn't mean it'll never happen. Perhaps some people try for the hope of immortality.

More importantly, you're best off making the most of what you have. Sure, you have a life which will eventually end, but it's eventually so you'd may as well try enjoy your life whilst you still have it.

    What's the point in trying?

Our mortality gives a deeper meaning to our time here. All I can say is that there are two people -- both end up in the same state of nothingness. One mopes around, shies away from social interaction, never finds love, happiness or a family and dies alone. The other celebrates his life, spends time with friends, learns, finds an ideal partner, produces a family, is exceedingly happy and dies by himself but with his most cherished ones beside him.
Which do you want to be?

I wouldn't think of it as a loss. More just enjoy the time you got left. Plus isn't anyone curious about After-Death ? I know I'll be happy to know what's it's like, unless it sucks.

Well; not trying results in misery compounding upon itself.
    You think you're miserable now?
Stop going to work, connecting with your friends/girlfriend/wife/peers/associates, withdraw completely and stop paying your bills, washing, eating; and you will see that the rest of your existence can be much more miserable than it is now. The goal is to spend your waking time in as much happiness as possible; people kill themselves when they have decided they cannot be happy. period.

    What's the point in trying?

The simple joys in life make me want to keep trying. If I didn't try, my life would be dull and without purpose.

The only reason you should try in anything is for self-satisfaction, or the satisfaction of others (parents, etc.). But then you are only satisfying them to allow yourself to sleep at night ;)

    What's the point in trying?

Death has its time, and its place. For some, it is sooner than others. Our fates are pretty much out of our control to a certain degree, and all we can do is live our lives to the best of our ability until death shows up on our doorstep to take us away.

Death is definitely not a bad thing, but its not necessarily good either. Death is just an inevitable part of life, something that is beyond our control and will happen to everybody eventually. But until death comes for us, we have this insane oppotunity to live life, to breathe fresh air, to enjoy and experience the wonderful things around us. Getting all preoccupied and obsessed with death while you are still alive is pretty sad, and really just wastes what little beautiful, precious time we have on this earth.

The point in trying is to see if you succeed or fail. Whichever outcome is given, it will determine your fate. - NAG

There is no reason to try, you have a natural instinct to survive, the other day I overdosed on drugs and could barely breathe, I realized that I didn't want to die as I was gasping for breathe, luckily I survived. It's just a natural instinct that you want to live and survive

Love, Free will, Happiness, Meaning, Interaction, Fun, and of course Sex are reasons for trying. Dont try and tell anyone that you have no desire for any of these because that is not true.

Well, if it turns out it isn't, you'll probably be pretty upset.

    What's the point in trying?

    Live forever or die trying.
Some dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.
