[TUT] The REAL way to change your i.p {RiP CiTy}

I found this on an ancient sythe.org archive. This tut was made by RiP CiTy.

Ever sick of those other shitty guides that get you all hyped up about the thing you were looking for, and it turns out to be a 5 minute waste of your life? So am I, so here's the real guide to changing your IP Address if the others haven't worked for you.

Note: I've only tested this on Windows XP Home and Pro, so I'm not sure if it'll work with anything else.

K, on with the guide...

1. Go to Start>Run

2. Type "CMD" or "COMMAND" in the run box. Either one works.



3. Hit OK, and you should now have the MSDOS prompt screen.

4. Type "ipconfig /release" without the quotations marks, and hit enter your enter key.

It should look like this-



5. Type "exit", then hit your enter key and you should be out of MSDOS.

6. Go to your control panel.



7. Open up Network Connections.



8. Find your Local Area Connection, right click and select properties



9. Click the General Tab on the top, and then double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).



10. Click "Use the following IP address" under the General tab

11. Create an IP address of your own (you have to get a VALID (no, you cannot make it up) proxy server to use ).

12. Now press your "Tab" key and it should automatically fill in the "Subnet Mask" section with default numbers.

13. Make sure you hit OK all the way out and you should now be at the "Local Area Connection" screen again.




Ta-da. A new IP.

 

I'm on XP home edition, and it tells me that ipconfig is not an internal or external command.

I don't think it works on FagRunner.

Ipconfig works on all versions of windows.

Putting an IP into the "Use the following IP" module and then going back to "Obtain IP automaticly" will not do anything. If you want to change your IP you have to get a VALID (no, you cannot make it up) proxy server to use - and then leave the tab on "Use the following IP". Then press ok.

Please update the tutorial, its incorrect.

I altered it...i think its right now. Sorry if it isn't.

 

No it doesn't work, however, you can still do on LAN's

 

This ONLY works for LAN's (you usually need to edit your IP for LAN partys)

 

this altered version is completely wrong towards the end. yes you should make up the new ip, then click ok until all the windows are gone, then open them up again, click assign me an ip, close out of them again, and then finalyl u have a new ip
