What does a MM do?
The MM will take the gold from the buyer and the account/pin/money from the seller. The MM will make sure the amounts are correct, and that the merchandise is in the agreed condition. Then, the MM will complete the trade by fowarding the cash to the seller, and the goods to the buyer.

The actual process depends on the type of trade. Here are specific explainations for MMing all kinds of things (made by Tilex)

Accounts (no recoveries):
Step 1: Both traders invite the MM into their conversation.
Step 2: The buyer gives the GP to the MM.
Step 3: The seller gives the MM the account name and password, and the MM will verify that it is correct. He will check for recoveries, a bank pin, stats/quests as requested, etc.
Step 4: The MM will change the password, and get the recovery information from the seller.
Step 5: The MM will give the account to the buyer, and the gp to the seller.

Accounts (with recoveries):
This process takes up to 15 days.
Step 1: The buyer gives the gp to the MM.
Step 2: The seller gives the MM the account information.
Step 3: The MM sets the recoveries to the buyer's specifications.
Step 4: After two weeks, the MM logs onto the account, and makes sure the recoveries have been set successfully, and that the account is still as agreed.
Step 5: The MM gives the account to the buyer, and the gp to the seller.

PBP Pins:
Step 1: The buyer gives the gp to the MM, along with the name and password of the account to credit it to. (Or, he sends the MM a direct link: see the sticky in the Membership forum for more on that method.)
Step 2: The seller gives the MM the country, type, phone number, and pin.
Step 3: The MM enters the pin. If valid, he gives the gp to the seller, and a copy of the used pin to the buyer.

Gold trades:
This varies according to what method the buyer is using - mail, paypal, egold, etc. The basics are:
Step 1: The seller gives the gp to the MM, and the buyer pays the seller.
Step 2: After the payment is cleared by the seller, the MM gives the gold to the buyer.

Am I allowed to post that I MM?
Yes, but only in the MM section of the Market.

Where can I find an MM?

Why does a MM charge?
MMs charge for the time they use to keep you safe.

Why are people offering to MM for free?
Some people will MM for free to gain reputation until they are official, then start charging.

I got scammed, what do I do?
Report it in the "Report a Scammer" (http://www.sythe.org/forumdisplay.php?f=253) section. Text logs are NOT accepted as proof. Take screenshots during the trade, and get a PM from the MM on sythe, to make sure you're not talking to a hacker or an impostor.

If a MM needs to check recoveries.

When MMing an account trade, almost always are you asked to check for recoveries, one of the most important things to. If an account has recoveries, the seller can take back the account at any time after the trade, which usually happens.

To check, first go to www.runescape.com

From there, find the Account Recovery section of the site, and choose "Recover a Lost Password"

Next you will be asked to give the account name. Here, you enter the name of the account you need to check recoveries for.

After entering the name, you will be taken to another screen, which will ask you if you forgot your password, or if it was stolen. Choose "Recover Forgotten Password"

Now, if the account doesn't have recoveries, it will look like this:

A lot of us know this already but thanks for posting Eric. It's gonna help a lot of up and coming ones as well.

Edit: A lot of the info in there should be changed now that you basically have to BH to buy gold. Also, the part with posting a MM topic in the user services section.
