I solemnly swear I am never staking again

Staking is a horrible habit obviously.. You can make or lose billions of gp in a matter of minutes. Well for me, I experienced both sides of the gun in a very short period of time..

So before the rollercoaster had begun I was sitting on a 4.6b bank after spending 300m or so on skilling (aka bonds) during the double xp weekend. I started off with a few 20m stakes, made steady profit until I was at 4.72b or so.. And that's when things got a little out of hand. The first mistake was doing an 80m against some guy on an obvious loss streak, which I lost. Not wanting to double up, I did another 80m.. which I also lost. There goes my profit, I thought to myself. Being in the mood for rage staking I stupidly did a 200m. Guess how that turned out? Not willing to accept being down 360m I started doing casual 80s until my cash stack finally depleted bringing my total loss to ~640m.

So I called it a night.. Went to bed feeling horrible and woke up this morning feeling equally as horrible. My heart was beating as I sold my White Partyhat.. This was the last of my cash and knew if I lose it, I'm done with rs. So I went back.. and this is how it turned out (give or take a few 50-100m stakes)

I'm a lucky son of a bitch. I'm done for life. I was ready to sell all names on my name sale thread for 25% of their value just to get the funds to make my bank back. If this little game of russian roulette turned out differently I'd be at a complete loss regarding where to go from here. All of you who stake, take my advice and don't gamble what you can't lose.. Being on the verge of cleaned is a horrible feeling and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I guess this advice can be given to any sort-of gambling. It's a terrible addiction to be in, and in the long run playing odds that are against you will only cost you to play.

I have a friend who's appeared on multiple news channels explaining his story against betting shops and their FOBTs in the UK. He's lost over £250,000 in total, and that's deposited funds.

Unfortunately sometimes winning can be the worst thing for a person. As they convince themselves that they are more fortunate, or that it's happened before so it will happen again. However, you never hear of any professional gamblers who have the odds stacked against them. How many professional roulette players are there? None, it's a gamble. The only gambling I'm aware of that can lead to profit is poker. And that is because with the correct game play you can increase your overall win % in your favor.

My advice to you is to stop now, learn your lesson. However, it's very unlikely that you will stop. As it's a very difficult addiction to release yourself of.

Jagex should be required to have an account "opt-out" from all wagering within the game. Which, if set remains permanent on your account.

One time (The last time) I was at the arena I had 500M, staked it into 7.2B over a period of 3 hours. I gave 400M to a good mate which funded his remaining skills to max out. So sitting at 6.8B I chilled for a couple days, blue phat, third age, the works. Then the smouldering lamps update came out and I was unaware I wanted to buy lots of bonds and pay2win my slow non buyables.

Took 80M to the arena and if I won was walking away to buy 8 bonds... worst choice i've ever made to this day on this game. Lost the 80M, did a 160M lost, did a 80 lost, then I got into big rage staking, did a 500M lost, eventually I (Feel free to call me retarded/idiotic) staked my blue phat.. I was so blood lusted and in the rage staking mood that the person I staked against was an "xer" so it was my blue against his 4B worth of shards. Since we both had items and shards I didn't pay attention to how many free inventory slots he had when we did an inventory check before the stake... get in the arena puts on the T90 shield... rage was real. Funny thing, even though he had the shield he still only won by 50LP which is nothing in polypore staking.

 

Yeah, I actually profited about 150m from the whole experience.. Not that it was worth the heart attack it gave me. And damn, 250k irl? I can't even imagine how that would feel.. I guess you can't really understand how much money you have until it's gone.

Oh gosh.. While it's mighty impressive that you managed to turn 80m into that much cash (in mere hours, no less) the thought of losing a blue partyhat makes my heart drop.. And man I'm glad you had the willpower to stop after that because the problem with me staking is I can't accept a loss.

it's the rush it give's which make's people want to stake.

I used to get a rush back in 2003/2004 on RSC when i used to go into the wild and pk lol.

As for staking i have always been able to control myself, i take x amount and i i lose it i lose it. I take only what i can afford to lose. I also set my self a goal saying if i need to buy or want to buy x item, once i make enough for it i go and spend it on the item/item's

 

I've lost and made billions of 07 staking lol. Glad to see you made your money back though

But a wise rule to follow: don't stake what you're not willing to lose.

jeez, don't stretch your luck. staking almost always ends up in losses in the end for most people atleast. if you win so much just walk, even 10m walk is profit. when you start to get greedy you loose. i hope you can get over it soon and hopefully never go to the duel arena again!! goodluck

 

This sounds stupid but win & loss streaks don't affect the chance of the next outcome what so ever. The odds for every stake are exactly 50/50 provided the same stats. You gotta stop thinking that your luck increases when you're on a loss streak, its what gets people cleaned both in RS & Irl. Its just maths man. C'mon, don't be a sucker.

I once staked 5m rs3 and won, the end.

 

The only time I staked was right after the release of ROTM, when people didn't know about Storm of Armadyl. That made me a sweet 100m in about a hour.

 

Good job. I use to say I'll never stake again after profiting, yet I still staked and got cleaned afterwards.
