Dallas Metroplex Tornados (LOTS OF PICS INSIDE) April 3rd, 2012

As some of you may already know, the Dallas (TEXAS) area was hit by roughly a dozen tornados on April 3rd, all scattered throughout the metroplex.

Statistics: An estimated 700 homes/buildings were damaged from the storm, 12 people were injured, 3 of them were sent to the hospital, none were serious at all.
Most of the twisters were rated f1-f2, though a few cities (mine included) experienced f4s.

Yesterday, I was in the IRC and right after I said my power went out, a tornado had touched down in my town and proceeded to rip through my neighborhood, tearing apart over 30 homes. Fortunately; no one was seriously injured. We spent most of today cleaning up, but it's a giant mess over here. I hate living in Tornado Valley!

Just for the curiosity of those who don't live in the area, here are a few pictures that cover some of the aftermath.

That's fucked up.. I'm glad I don't live in an area where tornado's are common.. If I did I'd build my house out of cinder blocks.

That stinks. I live in western missouri and we are on the edge of tornado valley (i think), and we get a scare here every once in a while but have never been hit.

There are so many cops in my town. Constables, state troopers, other precincts, they're everywhere!

The whole town has a mandatory curfew of 10 PM. Everything sucks.

I didn't know you lived in the Dallas area =o
I'm about 30 minutes away from downtown, but luckily the most we got as heavy rain. The trailer truck video is just incredible...

Yeah shit this was scary as hell. That footage of the trucks flying is just class A amazing, hard to capture. Shows how strong and that these ladies mean business. I was in my college in Frisco and all the power went out. Then the sirens were loud as hell and alot of cops told all of us to hide and stay away from glass. I was just on my laptop watching the news. Some guy took out his guitar and starting singing a song to keep everyone company.
The scary thing was my daughter and my parents were at our daycare at the time. There was a tornado supposedly 5 minutes away from there. It went down halfway but did not touch down thankfully. I couldn't even do anything and had to stay lock-down in the college as it was raining hard as hell that you couldn't see anything.
I'm going to Lancaster to check out the damage as they did say this was the worst ever in Dallas.
The best thing is that no one was killed which is a relief to hear! It's so crazy how mother nature bites all of us when you least expect it.

Well, I get really sensitive about this stuff. In April my home was destroyed by an EF-5 Tornado that tracked 132 miles. I live a little east of Huntsville..I guess now is time to tell the story. We got out of school right after a small tornado went north of the school that morning, made it home in between storms just before it all got real. Power was out all day (and for the next 5 days) but our home has a generator for the kitchen so we moved a tv in and watched what was going on. More tornados were popping up and following a path almost directly over us passing north every time. We would go outside and watch before the rain part of the cell got to our house.

I remember there being so many warnings that when I would freak out and tell dad that one was coming towards us and he would dismiss it. So I went back up to my room to clean up a little bit (ironically). My window faces east and I glanced out one time. This is as best as I can describe it. The clouds above me on the right were going south-west, strait south-west... The clouds on the right were moving in the complete opposite direction..I flipped shit and ran downstairs, to get dad and we went out on the front porch to look. The last thing you want to do in your life and the scariest moment is seeing your dad scared...He was even here for the tornado outbreak in the 70s. There were a bunch of tornados spinning off and I got one on film.

Ignore the shitty commentary, I was scared shitless and could not think of anything witty. You can hear my dad say "Don't talk" and that like snapped me out of it and is when the fear hit.

It was raining paper...specifically check stubs from hackleburg that was completely destroyed. What you hear is us running into the basement at the end of the video. My basement has a steel reinforced safe room where we ran to. The next thing I remember was the floor above us vibrating heavily and my ears popping..My home was flattened..

About a week later, yes, a week later we found out that the tornado I filmed never touched the ground, but the one that destroyed my house was trailing it by about 2 miles and was an EF-5.. I'm sorry I went off in lala land on your thread, I said all of that to say this, THAT SHIT SUCKS AND IS SCARY AS FUCK.

This was a video taken from the neighborhood behind mine..

I will open a thread once I find my old phone with the photos and videos from the following days.

Its pretty crazy that so many of us live in the dfw area!! i just moved out of richardson in 2009 i live about 30 mins north of the metroplex nowadays though .. these tornadoes hit pretty close to home as far as family goes.. my mother was in an area that was hit pretty hard you probably saw on the news in lancaster where those semi trailers where being thrown around like ragdolls that was right down the road from my mom!! Shes okay and her house surprisingly suffered only minor damages. Sorry to hear some of you had losses. Just thought id pop in and show some tx pride not trying to revive a dead thread but seeing how its still pertinent and only a few days old i think ill be fine.. I love tx hate the crazy weather
