    D Axe Scam?

Recently while chopping at ivys, I keep getting some that ask me to 'transfer' items to another account.

They show around 10 d axes, and then ask if you can do it. Obviously you will say yes. Then they say to prove your trust, loan your d axe to them, and they will give you one d axe of their own.

Now, you must think, you are lending a d axe, what seems to be the problem? Well I reckon this is a scam, and didn't proceed.

Anybody know if there is a lend glitch or anything?

    D Axe Scam?

There could be a loan glitch that only a few players know about. I know Jagex aren't too keen on returning lost/stolen items. I wouldn't lend out anything that I would miss if there was a glitch that let them keep it.

    D Axe Scam?

If you're rich enough to afford losing a d axe, I say go for it.

You could possibly even know how it works if it is a bug/glitch.

    D Axe Scam?

This IS a loan glitch! DO NOT DO IT!

Somebody, I think it was Realsies, made a post quite a number of weeks ago warning people about this scam when he discovered it. I was also approached about this "trustworthiness" bs and asked to loan my Santa, and recieve a bunch of items in return.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the scam goes something like this:

    - Player shows you the same item that you have, and asks to loan yours
    - You loan it to them to prove your "trustworthiness"
    - They tell you they are going to trade you their version of the item to you, then you must return it back to them to prove you can be trusted
    - Then *I think* what they do is trade you YOUR OWN lended item, which is possible because its your item in the first place
    - You then trade it back to them, thinking its THEIR version of the item, even though its actually YOUR lent item. So the second time you trade it to them you are not lending it, you are giving it away!
    - The player then teleports/logs out, and leaves you wondering wtf just happened.

**This may be wrong, but it is something very similar to this. Basically, in the end you end up losing your precious item, so do not lend it away OR recieve on back! Be careful, and spread to word to fellow players just incase they encounter similar situations. Jagex was apparantly notified of this supposed "glitch" and they were apparantly unable to do anything about it, as its not actually a glitch but rather a clever scam where a player is merely being tricked.

    D Axe Scam?

Zerkerfist is almost right. I thought this was a pretty obvious scam by now. They get you to 'lend them' your item, in exchange for one of theirs.

They cancel the trade instead of accepting. If you don't notice, you think your axe is gone, and theirs is in your inventory.

You give 'their' axe back, but it's really yours that was never lended in the first place.

    You lose your axe.

    D Axe Scam?

Wow, they just cancel the lending screen?

In that case, I have slightly less sympathy for people who fall for this, as there must be some sort of message or something in the chatbox after you decline the trade.. I know for sure you get a certain message AFTER you've lent an item.

So if they are merely declining the trade window and the player doesn't notice, that would mostly be the players fault :p

Yeah, I've had a couple of idiots try it on me. Can't say 100% this is what would have happened, but it is a well known scam.

To be fair, if you don't have the 'Game Messages' displaying you would miss the message entirely.

    D Axe Scam?

Someone tried to do this with my h'ween mask. Basically this is how it works: You open trade, I put my blue mask on loan until log out. He adds a Blue mask to the trade that he owns. We accept to the second screan. He waits for you to accept then declines the trade.
This is where the scammer hopes you did not realise and thinks you have his Blue Mask in your inventory, and he has yours on loan. when in truth you both have your own masks as the trade was canceled. The scammer then asks for 'his' mask back as trust and in return he will give you a Mask set or whatever.

It's really a petty attempt, the moment someone says anything about you getting money or them trusting you having only just met you, means scammer now.

I thought so, guess I didn't look at the loan options and such.

Should be a warning for everyone. That is probably why they display many d axes :p

It's sad how the "I'm doing an experiment" or "I want to see how trusted RS really is" is the one-liner to all scams these days. -_-

If there's a glitch in the system for item lending them someone should seriously report this to Jagex.

Think its the old loan scam trick. They loan the items and want them back, you trade your stuff to him and he takes it back (the loaned items).

    D Axe Scam?

There isn't a lending glitch. It really is just them cancelling the trade and then asking them for the item back, making you think that the item is really theirs that they just gave you, but in reality it's still yours. Lots of people get scammed from this, and they all think it's a glitch because if they saw them cancel, they wouldn't think it was a glitch.

    D Axe Scam?

Please read my last post, I explain completely how this scam is done, as someone tried to do this to me.

It is not a glitch in any way, and at no point does the scammer have you holding any of their items.

They simply try and trick you into thinking you have their item, and they have yours on loan and then ask you to give them back 'their' (it's really yours) item to show trust. They often offer a much bigger prize if you show your trust in home people will rush through the trade and not realise that the trade was actually canceled.

EDIT: Not @ you tenko, this is intended for those who have posted after asking if it was a glitch.
