What laptop should I get?

Well, I want a laptop for school since I'll be starting college in the fall, but I'm not sure what to get. I was wondering if you guys could help me out by suggesting the best laptops out there that are priced at $500 or less. It doesn't matter if they're refurbished or w/e. I'm looking for the best deal out there. Also, if you guys would recommend any particular brands over others I'd appreciate it.

 

You will get a shit laptop for under $500. I'd recommend an HP, Asus, Lenovo, or Acer. Dell xps are good too I hear.

nah for under $500 get a notebook, they are handy for schoolwork.

 

Hmm, yeah I've seen some decent laptops for like $499.99. I don't need anything crazy you know.. but I might consider a notebook.

 

Macbook? I think those are around $500.

Lmao, yeah I don't plan on getting a dell. If I get a laptop I'll want an Asus or Toshiba probably.

 

Get an ASUS IMO, HP have a high fail rate I've heard, dell are decent sometimes, others I haven't hard much about.


A mac is well over $500 hahaha.

MSI is one of the worst brands out there..

Extremely quiet, long ass battery life. Exactly what you want during class.

i3 processor, 640gb hd and upgraded graphic card.

Plus, ASUS has the lowest failure rate. Or they're tied with Toshiba. HP has the highest I believe.

 

Wouldn't have a clue with lappies, all I know is they are one of the best GPU cooler makers out there. So I just assumed they'd be decent lappie makers. xP

Dell isn't always bad. I got a refurbished e1705 a couple years ago, and only replaced it last month. Never had any problems with it, only replaced it because it was pretty outdated, and I finally have an excuse for a new computer. I would never get a Dell desktop though.

If you want to do some light gaming, the i3 sandy bridge cpu's would be good (4 numbers in the model names), since the graphics are pretty good for integrated, and you won't get any dedicated graphics on a decent laptop for under $500.

If you just want a word processor, get a netbook. Very portable and great battery life (I'm going desktop-netbook for college).

I would HIGHLY recommend straying away from Compaq/HP notebooks. While they are nice notebooks altogether, they seem to have some strange notebook manufacturing issue where they are constantly much hotter than average laptops.

I'd recommend a Dell, but I do know they can be decently expensive.

 

That toshiba spec wise looks excellent(second gen i3 etc) I know many people with Toshibas and they run excellently.
