What is your philosophy of life?

I'd say my philosophy is just to sorta let people do whatever they want as long as it doesn't get in the way of my everyday life or the everyday lives of anybody I care about.

Sort of like, my life has priority over others but it doesn't necessarily have to be good or happy. As long as my life is not negative (at least neutral) then the happiness of others should be put ahead of mine.

This philosophy came mostly from failed relationships, but it works alright for most aspects of life.

 

Why does your life take priority over others?

 

It's more of in the sense of, if certain relationships need to be ended, you should choose to end them in spite of whatever emotions you or anyone else have. In relation to everything else, my life doesn't really take priority because your state of life is neutral by default.

 

So logic takes precedence over emotion? What if your philosophy of life is based around emotional connections?

Could you elaborate on this a bit? I'm not sure I understand.

For the record I'm not trying to argue or imply your "philosophy of life" is wrong in any way. I'm just curious.

 

In regards to your first question I think a lot of people consider their lives as more important than others due in part to social conditioning. Parents often bring up their children with a mindset of acting in your own interests all the time. Which is not to say this is wrong, because if you don't look out for yourself you will surely suffer, but people carry this kind of mentality with them through the rest of their lives and end up being selfish and self-centered because of it.

Moving forward I agree that logic and emotions should be balanced in order to maintain a healthy life and enjoy happy relationships. I was more-so trying to prod at Frank to coax him into explaining his personal perspective a little bit more. A bit of a devil's advocate sort of thing, which you will find I do quite often.

Same. I don't enjoy following laid out plans, it feels much better doing things on the fly and as they come.

I've moved this to General Discussion due to the more general nature of this thread. There is not much of a debate going on (or even a justification of thoughts); rather, a normative question.

As for me, I'm not sure I have a philosophy that guides me; rather, a sense of morals and ideals that I have arrived at by myself (and whatever factors that have influenced me). So yeah, nothing specific, just ideas of what/how I should live.

 

Live til you die. We over-complicate the process due to our intelligence.

 

Chase the dream. Success is your duty.

More seriously: It doesn't matter if you dream big or small, as long as you get to it and be happy that's all it matters.
