Long Distance BMXing

Hey guys.
So recently, I moved and It takes me no less than an hour by public transport to get to my university from here.

Since most of the way there is flat ground, I thought that I'd buy a bmx and bine to school everyday. It's about 9 miles away.

Is this a good idea? I prefer bmx's over road bikes, since they're cheaper and a lot more fun.
If so, can you guys recommend some nice models or brands?

Using BMX's as transport is a terrible idea. They are poor for riding long distance and often aren't cheaper. I'd say a mountain bike would perhaps be the best idea for you.

 

Sure a mountain bike would be better, but where's the fun in that

Using BMX to go long distance is very tiresome. Riding a normal bike is not as fun as BMX but it's still enjoyable. If you still persist on going with the BMX, you'll regret it.

 

Oh geez, I used to ride my BMX bike to go to high school everyday in the morning and the afternoon. It was about 13-15 Miles total.

I would hate getting to school and sweating, mind you I'd always get to school late LOL (Not waking up earlier )

I had a Kink Gap bike. It was 100% stock but my friend convinced me to take off my breaks and stuff that makes you look like a beginner (lights, etc.). After that I upgraded all of my parts besides the frame.

You should consider getting a BMX for tricks and fun and another road bike for commuting reasons
