How to train your dog

This guide will be teaching you how to train your dog, first of all I will give you the basics, then I will tell you how to teach it tricks.

Your dog in my opinion is a puppy for about 1 year.
That's when it needs training the most.

When you first get it (persuming you get it just after it's born) it will whine a lot. I will give you 2 different ways to raise your dog and possably a third, but that wont be as detailed.

1 - Extremely attached (follows you everwhere, but will do what you say)
2 - Well trained (Will do what you say)
3 - Guard dog

Pup:
Puppies are pretty active and they like to explore the house. Let them explore the house (keep them to the front room at first) they will eventually get used to the place and will be more playful.

A few little tips:
Keep small items off your floor
Keep valuable items away from the floor or where the puppy can reach.

Toilet training:
You can't really tell when a puppy needs the toilet, so keep an eye on them or your floor will get pee or poo on it.
Put newspapers down in the room your puppy is in, then when your puppy needs the toilet pick it up really fast and stick it on the paper so it can finish off.
Keep doing this untill it goes to the paper on its own to go the toilet.
Then slowly move the papers closer and closer to the back door untill it eventually starts going the toilet at the back door.

Then when ever it needs the toilet it will go to the paper, open the door and let it out in the back (you can put papers out in the back, but it may rain or what ever) eventually your puppy will wait at the door untill it needs the toilet, it may bark, it may not.

If the dog, goes on the floor after this you have to grab the dog and show it what it has done, grab there neck and put there nose about 1 inch away from there mess and shout then hit them. This seems nasty but you have to do it so it stops.


Ea:
The dog will be extremely attached to you and follow you everwhere.
Basically let it do what it wants.
It will want to sit with you on the couch and it will want to sleep with you etc.
If you eat at the table skip this little bit.
If you eat at the couch, your dog will try and jump up and sit next to you, it is begging and wants your food. I highly recommend that you shout at it and ttell it to get off the couch, you want to let your dog know your the bogss and it can't have your food, otherwise it will eventually try and take the lead of the pack (you are the pack).



Wt:
This dog will do what ever you tell it to, you have to be pretty strict with the dog other wise this will not work (in my expiereince it hasn't worked). You will have to spend a lot of time with the dog for it to become very well trained. You will need a lot of treets as well.
This method can be used for the tricks part to, what ever you want your dog to do you have to associate it twith something, for instance if you want it to come to you, point down and then tell it to come, once it does this give it a treat, keep doing this for a while, then only give it a treat every 3-5 times you do it. Eventually you can stop giving it a treat and it will just come.


Gd:
A guard dog is pretty tricky, I highly recommend you send the dog to a professional if you want it to be an attack dog/guard dog.
But if you want to do it your self here is how. Once again though use a professional if you do not know how to look after a guard dog you may one day lose control of it.

First of all treat it as a Wt dog, you need to be strict with it, but loving at the same time for this to work.

1 way to train it to attack and stop on command is, by using a friend, put a lot of clothing on if you don't have protective gear, make sure your friend puts up a hood and cover his/her face, they must annoy the dog so it generally hates people with hoods up or covering there face (I say use hoods as most thieves don't just brake into your house showing there face, they wear hoods and things to cover thier face. When the dog pretty much hates people with hoods, go mad such as shouting attack, if the dog doesn't do anything pretend to hit this person and the dog will hopefully join in. Then shout stop and pull your dog away, keep doing this untill your dog attacks and stops without you pulling it away or anything.

Another way is using a scarecrow or something you can make in your garden/garage and basically using the same method as before.
Most thieves wont steal anything once they hear your dog barking anyway, so you don't really need an attack dog if your an average person.



Tr:
It's always fun when your dog does tricks, it's also cool to show off infront of friends.
I don't know how to teach your dog all tricks, but I can tell you how I tought my dog.

Sitting - Teach your dog to sit is pretty easy, just push down on it's back near it's bum and say "sit" as your doing it, when it sits give it a treat
Lying down - The same as above but your saying "lie down" and not "sit".
Roll Over - This is really the same as sitting and lying down, but this time your just pushing it over and rolling it over by your hands, it will eventually get the picture.
Speak/Bark - Just hold the treat and say "speak/bark" untill it barks.
Open the door - This 1 takes time, you have to get something the dog can pull on, I cheated and put a dog toy on the bottom of the door, then just tell it to drop.
Close the door - This is suprisingly easy, all you have to do it lick the dog treat and stick it high enough up the door that your dog has to jump and get it, I recommend using chocolate buttons (dog ones).
Drop - you have to say "drop/leave" to your dog and put your finger in it's mouth behind the ball or what ever it is holding, the dog should drop the item once you put your fingers in it's mouth and try and take the item. It will get used to you pulling it out when saying drop and it will do it it's self.
Get the newspaper/mail - I used two people for this, you get the dog to follow you and hand it the paper while saying "get the paper" the other person then says "come here" and repeat this process untill the dog get's the paper it's self.

Tricks in progress:
Get me a beer - I am currently trying to teach my dog how to get me a beer, he has mastered opening and closing the fridge door using the above methods but I am having trouble getting him to bring the beer in. I will update this thread if I get him to do it
