What is your favorite movie and why?

What is your favorite movie and why?

I have several (in no particular order). Some of them are:

1. The Big Short: funny, accurate, painful and very well-thought-out
2. Gladiator: watched this for the first time when I was a kid, the nostalgia, action, the drama is what did it for me. I loved the setup where a good man had nothing more to lose so that he could bring out the animal in himself and focus solely on revenge. This theme goes essentially against everything we are taught as children
3. The Godfather I: Probably the best movie I have ever watched, I also read the book (recommended), and it's amazing to think that this movie is almost 50 years old. The use of a classical film language correctly and remarkably; that language is used to emotionally evoke a grand archetypal American narrative. This is remarkable. The amazing character developments, the subtle and spontaneous coverage of a vast array of themes like marriage, politics, lost innocence, loyalty, poverty. A lot of small things, like the cat, the baker scene, etc. give a special kind of elegance to the movie
