What is the temp folder?

I had some problems with Powerbot, so I went to powerbot.org and asked, and they said that I had to search for %temp% in my computer and delete it. So my question is, what does the temp folder do? And what can happen if I delete it?

Nothing will happen, not sure.. I've done that before and didn't notice any problems..

 

Temporarily stored files. It contains nothing crucial so you should be safe to remove it.

 

It's just a folder for temporary files to be placed, mainly from updates or when a program is changed or performs a task. You should be ok to delete anything in there, it's mostly just junk.
