What is the reason you are part of a religion / an atheist?

Why? Do you feel the need to have something to hold onto? Or is it a social thing? There is absolutely no need for a 13 year old boy to convert to any form of Christianity, and then have his parents follow. Give me your reasoning.

Of course a 13 year old boy could have a need to convert to a religion. There could have been something in his life that made him need something to believe in. And his parents may have also converted to become closer as a family.

 

I go to a catholic school, but I am a Jedi. Yes it is a real religion.

I was both raised and something dramatic happened. The dramatic thing was experiencing a poltergeist, a type of ghost, in my friend's house that shoved me and him a little bit, but he was already used to the thing in his room doing that shit to him so he wasn't scared but I freaked out. After that incident I'm sure there is an afterlife and I believe God created the afterlife. I also find it amazing how the Bible can tell the future through Bible codes and actual prophecy written in the Bible.

I'm Catholic but there are some things I don't find true about Catholicism. For example, when you go to receive the bread Catholics actually believe Jesus is there spiritually, I don't believe that, so I guess I can't say I'm fully Catholic but mostly.

 

Any of my business? Sure ok, it's not, but since we're having an intelligent debate on it I'm assuming it is for the sake of the conversation, would you agree? Anyway, yes, I am asking if there was something in his life that made him "need something to believe in", because that is exactly why most Christians are tools. "Needing something to believe in" is the biggest cop out I can think of. Instead of taking responsibility and knowing that you're the one that fucked up, and only YOU can change your life, you believe in some dude named Jesus and hope he'll do it for you. You can say I'm exaggerating, but It's the same principal regardless. And to TJ, you don't "convert" to atheism, that's just the term used when you finally realize there is no god.

 

Other - I do believe that there is something more, But I also believe that religion is just a huge pile of bullshit trying to make money.

 

Why would a ghost "shoving you" convert you? The bible doesn't say that ghost exist; you go to heaven or hell...and what things has the bible predicted?!

I'm not mentally retarded. I would have known if my friend was shoving me. If there's an afterlife I assume there is a creator. You can look it up yourself what the Bible has predicted because there's a ton of them.

This thread isn't for debate anyways so please don't argue, it's just my belief and I have reasons for it.

So you are now assuming that everything in the bible is true, and that the idea of an afterlife must be connected to Christianity, nothing else. And yes, you are mentally retarded.

 

I personally find Christianity to be the most substantial and logical worldview. Comparing and contrasting with any others has led me to believe it to be true.

 

No, I became an atheist for a reason, because Catholicism makes no sense to me, just like any other religion. Besides, as long as there is no proof of the existence of god, I will not believe in one or worship one.

But ok believe what you want, I'm giving my opinion that Christianity is the most flawed religion in the world, and although religions like Hinduism actually make sense and use logic, they're still not backed up by enough proof to make me convert. But if I was to choose one it would be Hinduism, look it up and read up on it, you might convert if you're a Christian.

I come from a family that isn't really religious, but I was raised to be a Christian. At around 10/11 I started questioning the whole plot itself, and then at 12 I realized that there is no god, mostly because of personal reasons, and a small amount of research.
