What is the advantage of a pure combat player?

I saw a few guides but im not sure whats the significant edge you get over other players when your defence isnt trained?

 

You're compromising defence for greater offence, albeit 1 defence pures are only effective to a certain CB level.

 

By keeping your defence and prayer low, you are able to train attack and strength higher while keeping overall combat level low.

I'll give you an example, however this is all completely theoretical and not how combat levelling actually scales. If you are interested in calculating your combat level just google 'osrs combat calc'.

A pker with 50att 60str 20def
Vs
A pker with 60att 80str 1def
Both have a imaginary combat lvl of 55.

The pker with 20def has more defence meaning he'll get hit less, but on the downside he hits less hard due to his strength being low. He also hits less due to his attack being lower.

The pker with 1def will get hit more due to his defence being low, but he has the potential to hit more and much harder as his att and str are higher.

Now if you compare the both, the pker with 1def has higher dps overall and thus higher kill potential than the pker with 20def. This is the advantage pures have, higher kill potential. It wont matter if your opponent has higher def so he gets hit less, you can hit more and hit harder.

Something to take note of : defence = less chance to get hit. But defence =/= being hit less.

Its a small compromise to have your def lower, but a well worth one.

 

You know how they say the best defense is a good offense? Thats basically the mentality someone has when creating a pure.

 

Hit higher but get hit harder at the same time. Only good when you're a low-mid level pker. Terrible for PvM/bossing.

 

Lower defence is usually what gets people to pure PK.

 

You have a lot lower defence, but at the same time your offense is much stronger aswell. This is usually done by people who want to fight people with low combat levels and be able to kill them easily with their strong offense approach.
