What is fascism?


Many historians have tried to define fascism, but none have managed to come up with a satisfactory answer to what is the common denominator of fascist ideologies islamofascisme, Stalinist fascism, Nazism and Mussolini's Fascism. On Wikipedia, we can eg. read that there is "no consensus on what is in it to be" real "fascist."

You know why? Because either one ends up with a definition that makes fascism is a meaningless concept, or so one ends up with a definition which almost EVERYTHING is fascism, including social democracy. And it can not be true that the current system is fascist! We live, after all, the world's best democracy in 2011, right?

Well, the fact is that there is only one thing that binds together different types of fascism and it is state violence against peaceful people: forced unity. All shall, no escape, and the grace that is trying to decide over their own lives.

You could even go through the various types of fascism and begin to weed out those qualities that are essential to fascism. Racism is not such a defining characteristic, because Mussolini's fascism was not racist. Nationalism is not a defining characteristic because Stalin was an internationalist. Religion (Islam, Christianity) is not a requirement, because Germany and Italy were secular forms of fascism.

Continue like this and when one discovers that one is left with only one defining feature: totalitarianism (compulsory unit). All shall, no escape, and the grace that is trying to decide over their own lives.​
