What is a hero? And who are your heroes

Is a hero some kind of "superhero" with "super powers?"
Does it take a lot of money and fame to be a hero?
What's involved in being a hero?
Can we call ourselves a hero?

These are the questions I often ask myself when I question who really are my heroes?

As a child my father was a hero to me...But it rapidly became clear to me that he was an asshole...By the age of 8 I no longer looked up to or respected my father. Since then I've never really found a hero figure in my life...

Is it bad not to have a hero?Someone to aspire to be like?

What is a hero to you guys and do you have any heroes yourselves?

 

I use the term in jest a lot. "Dude, you're my hero!" if someone does something I'm pleased by.. but I suppose you put a lot of trust in a being by anotating them as your hero. If someone who you idolise and say is your hero, does something immoral or "bad", then you kind of bring that upon yourself? Maybe?

Idk, I suppose I'd see it as someone you idolise and wouldn't mind being like.. a lot

 

This part made me think... I mean although I've never looked upon him as my 'hero', I did idolise Robin Williams. When I was hit with the news he had committed suicide , I almost blamed myself...As if it was my fault that he wasn't happy, questioning 'how come I didn't notice his deep depression'.

I just have an image of you really sarcastically saying 'oh, you're my hero!' , it's amusing.

As defined by Batman in The Dark Knight Rises movie..."A hero can be anyone. Even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know that the world hadn't ended."

A hero, to me, is someone who acknowledges their fear(s), confronts their fear(s) and overcomes them. They aren't some inhuman, perfect image. The fact that you can relate to them, and accomplish what they accomplish makes them all the more influential.

A hero of mine though...hmm...My mom is definitely one of my heroes. She has always had intense stage fright and would even shake uncontrollably during the smallest presentations, but guess what her career is now? She is an event planner and is expected to speak in front of many intimidating people at big conferences and she does it without hesitation, like it's always been her 'thing'.

It really gives me hope, because I suffer from intense stage fright as well.

 

My hero is my father, he is my role model who I wish to follow in his footsteps

 

In my eyes, a hero is one who is willing to sacrifice his own life for others and for our freedom.

I don't think it has to be that extreme. Heroes aren't always about martyrdom and sacrifice.

That's the actual definition of the term 'hero' so I guess being a hero really means to be someone in the spotlight doing something spectacular.
Then again, it could be interpreted as someone who gains appraisal of some kind, regardless of whom from.
I know I won't ever have a hero, though. Don't exactly have a knack for admiring or idealizing anyone.

 

I find hero is really hard to describe objectively nowadays. Everyone has their own idea of what a hero is to them.
