Mmmmm, personally i think Japan are no longer a force. If WWIII does come it will be a war waged between two far east super powers, I believe India and China will have a lot to do with any wars that happen from now on. But perhaps Japan may prove me wrong! :)

    Nukes will be dropped. :(

    It'd be something like

Europe VS Africa VS Allied Forces

    China, Japan, WWIII?

I think it is unlikely that Japan would pose as a great threat to China, for starters, China's population:1,344,130,000 Japan's population: 127,817,277, therefore China has far more people it could arm.

And it unlikely, it'd be something similar to the cold war I would have thought. Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD) would probably prevent anything like this from happening.

    China, Japan, WWIII?

When the U.S. "occupied" Japan, part of the agreement was that the U.S. would defend Japan and that Japan was to not build up a military.

Anyway while Japan may be slightly building up, they in no way could match the Chinese military due to sheer numbers. Of course, the U.S. is backing Japan and China most-likely won't go against the U.S. simply due to the economic benefits the U.S. provides to China. Japan's biggest threat is North Korea.

If WWIII were to happen (which it will, sooner or later), my guess would be that it'll consist of an almost more "religious" battle. Iran(and other Islamic countries), North Korea, and then of course potentially Russia/China/Venezuela/Cuba and such verse the Western Powers such as: U.S./U.K./France/etc.

Edit: On a side note, it's rather unlikely nukes would be dropped. There are plenty of other weapons in the arsenal of war that don't involve the downfall of radiation.

Eventually China and India will need to expend, if you look at the growth rate of population in both countries and the water supply in India it is only natural they will need to expand at some point, they problem is where....
Personally i feel quite sorry for Australia as i think they will be seriously caught up in any mess if that comes to pass...

Iran and other rogue nations is a high possibility, although most of those countries won't pose much of a threat to us on our own soil.

Unless of course you're reading this from Israel, then unfortunately you would be gone.

Israel is more than capable of defending itself (not counting anything involving Israel will involve the U.S.) Furthermore, their technology is on-par with the U.S., and they have the #2 air-force in the world (behind the U.S.)

Japan is one of the few countries in the entire world that has a constitution that makes laws against war. It is against the Japanese constitution to want to start a war.

Obviously it being outlawed to start war in Japan, its not anytime soon that Japan is going to be starting a war with anybody.

Actually the biggest nuclear/war threat is between India and Pakistan.

Both armed, both hate each other.

The only countries with nuclear weapons are the 5 leading nations in the U.N.?

Pakistan did release a statement a few months ago saying that if Iran were to get nuclear capability, they would follow purely to defend themselves; but since when do they both already have nuclear weapons?

War I could see, but to be fair there's been tension there for a very long time.

Well, you learn something new every day.

Definitely interesting, didn't realize India/Pakistan had nuclear warheads; never really looked into it, but I obviously wrongly assumed they'd of been disarmed.

As for the war aspect, unless some major event happens I don't seem them going to war. The tension has been there for generations, and it would need a catalyst to lead to a nuclear war.

I've been living in Japan for 7 months now, and I can assure you they are not really worried about the issue. They are pushing foward with diplomatic talks and agreements, although with some discrepancies. If however, China wages war, The US will backup japan 100%. This war is very unlikely to happen since Japan hasn't had much if any military power since WW2, when they announced the closure of alll military programs. Besides, both are UN and world powers, so its likely it wont be that extreme.

I'm not sure why china would be threatened by the expansion anyways. It would need to be a very large, very fast expansion for it to be a real concern.

Korea is the only country that i'm even relatively concerned with towards an American threat right now. And as nuclear weapons go, the U.S. and Russia both have maxed out nuclear program capability, and we both know that. We know what the largest bomb physically capable of being exploded is, and we've now focused on more precise nuclear weapon systems.

Japan wont be a threat to China since since its power is less strong than China. But if USA backup, then "Japan" will become a threat.

Actually there was no severe tension between Pakistani muslims and Indians in the early 1800-1900s, it all started when Great Britian started colonizing in India and bombarded propaganda between the two races. Pakistan was a part of India until the two countries were divided in 1947. Since then, both of the countries have had extreme hate towards each other on several reasons such as Pakistan wanting the northen most state as a part of their country (Jammu & Kashmir). The several terrorist attacks on the India that were backed by the Pakistani government has led to farther tensions between the two countries and war is a plausible option.

OT: I remember reading in the news somewhere that China is rather concerned about North Korea's recent " nuclear" test launches.

Thanks for that well reasoned argument. OT: Despite having fewer numbers than China, a fair chunk of China's population live in poverty, whereas this is not the case in Japan. Nobody thought Germany could do all that they did by themselves in WWII, but superior planning showed that it was possible. I don't really think a WWIII is imminent, but I think that cold wars are.
