My goal to quit smoking cigarette

Lets start off to how I got into smoking. All my life growing up I've been around my mother who would contently smoke, eventually I would always just hang around my mom(I assume that it is because I started to get enjoyment from the nicotine). When I was offered my first cigarette at thirteen on school grounds there was no way I could even say no due to so much exposure to it throughout my life at the time. After that first cigarette it would become routine to stay after school just so I could have a cigarette with the older kids at school. After doing that long enough I became friends with older people getting access to acquiring packs for myself around the time that I was 14 or 15. Even though I had the packs I normally stuck to smoking casually with friends with one or two extra every other day or so. This happened until I turned 16 and got my first job a Dunkin Donuts. This Dunking Donuts was different though, it was merged with a quick stop gas station, giving me direct access to cigarettes from older employees without question. So as most of you know jobs at any kind of fast service place is pretty stressful, causing me to want to smoke more and more just to get the opportunity to take breaks more often. It went like that for awhile until I was smoking a pack a day by my 17th birthday. Also by then I had gotten a different job doing maintenance work, so I could take breaks without question. When the end of that summer rolled around I was smoking around the same as my mother(a pack and a half a day). This went on for awhile until recently this year. I'm currently 18 and I've decided that I need to stop smoking. The enabler of it is because in New York the tax for cigarettes was decided to go up $1.40USD a pack making the cost per pack of marb red 100s to be over $10USD. It's not all that though, I really need to stop for obvious health reasons. Currently I am on day six and I'm dreading every second of it. I have awful headaches contently from it, my appetite is getting so large it disgusts me, my friends all tried to quit with me but I'm the only one who has not fallen back into it so they all smoke around me. I can't really do anything about the headaches besides deal with them. I am trying to compensate with my appetite growing by going on runs every morning. My friends smoking around me is torture, but I think its good for me in the sense that in greater pain I will have greater results in quitting(or at least that's the way I'm looking at it). It's only been six days though and I have already had a great leap for my health. Last night I had a coughing fit and I hacked up so much shit from my lungs to the point where there was an obvious difference in my lung capacity(I assume I was getting rid of tar and other awful things in cigarettes). Honestly I think I can make it through quitting but its going to be a very long and difficult road to venture. I plan on cheating a little but for certain events though, I don't want to smoke though, so I plan on getting nicotine gum or patches for some large events that I have with my friends like going to festivals or going on week long camping trips. I think doing that will help me not crack and just start smoking again. Idk, I think that I'm going about this well, but I would appreciate some feedback from you guys on how you think I'm doing and also give me tips o n quitting if you have. Thanks If you read this whole thing, I kind of wrote it to distract me from wanting to smoke.

    Update-
It has been about two and a half weeks now. The thing about it only being two weeks and the physical addiction goes away is not true, I continue to have migraines and I get mad at people constantly, most of the time they don't deserve it and I feel terrible about it afterwords. It really is just an awful thing to go through. It kinda makes me mad that something like this is legal when pot is not, but whatever its my fault I guess. I'm leaving soon to go shopping with my friends for camping, i'm going with ten close friends for 5 days and were leaving tomorrow morning. I'm really excited about it, but all of my friends smoke a lot, meaning shit man ten people smoking around me very often. Its going to be hard...

Good luck. Perhaps you should have cut down first though.. Rather than stopping outright? Idk, I'm not a smoker.

Anyway, good luck, glad you've come to your senses.

Yeah, it might have helped my chances but I took advantage of using the price gain on them to help me quit. Just stopping cold turkey is harder but its really hard to casually stop also. its really difficult either way.

Thanks, I really hope I can make it

I've done it. I had only smoked for 2 years though, not as much as you. I decided that I wanted to get in shape and motivated myself and quit. All/most my friends smoke still, and they are always telling me how they miss going out at lunch time and having a ciggarette with me lol. But you can do it, just motivate yourself.

The best thing to do is to just stop smoking. Maybe eat some gum +))

It's good that you are giving it up, smoking is not beneficial in any way.
Perhaps you can supplement something in to take the edge off, what do you like to do?

Yeah, I have a pretty tight mindset about it.

Yeah, I just stopped. Planning to get gum or patches for occasions so I don't get too tempted to smoke.

well I write a lot more often like this for example, I've even started my own short story to try to help me kill time and distract myself from wanting to smoke.

If you enjoy writing that much pursue it. It will hopefully keep your mind off smoking and provide you something enjoyable and fun to do.
    Good luck.

My father recently quit after smoking cigarettes for around twenty years, he has been cig-free for around 8 months now.

It can be done, and it is good for you that you are taking the initiative and going running, since your appetite will gain sufficiently.
